Welcome to JEvents.net: One of the Best Events & Calendar Management Extensions for Joomla!

JEvents is a long established Events calendar and listing addon for Joomla - and was first released in 2005 when Joomla was born!  JEvents consists of a number of modules and plugins for Joomla!.  It is highly configurable and customisable with a long list of addons available to extend its functionality.  This makes JEvents the ideal choice for your websites.

JEvents 2.0 Changes

JEvents 2.0 is the first version of JEvents that will be Joomla 1.6 compatible (as well as Joomla 1.5 compatible).

Main changes from version 1.5.5:

  1. Joomla 1.6 compatability - makes it possible to use Joomla 1.6 ACL in addition to the JEvents authorised user mode for event creation including control over which categories in which users can create/edit event.
  2. Overlapping event testing - it is possible to block the creation of overlapping events/repeats either as an overall setting or on a category specific basis.  This features a plugin architecture so that the next version of the location addon can also be incorporated so that you can stop double bookings of events at a specified location.
  3. Latest events module features new options to display 'past' events only and also the most popular events (i.e. those with the greatest number of hits)

JEvents Locations

JEvents Locations is one of the Silver extensions that conforms the JEvents Addons family and it provides a great locations management tool that integrates seamlessly with JEvents. With JEvents Locations you can easily create a great directory of locations and places with great features like:

  • Simple click and select interface when editing events with the ability to create new locations without the need to return to this addon component.
  • Seamlessly integration with JEvents.
  • Provide detailed info of the locations where your events take place.
  • Global or private locations - if a user is authorised in Jevents to create "global extras" then they can create global locations that everyone can use. Otherwise the user can only create private locations that can only associated to events by they themselves.
  • Embedded maps with address lookups and variable zoom using a third party maps service (Currently only Google Maps is supported).
  • Show a list with all your locations (table format and blog layout)
  • Easily create menu items and modules restricted to specific cities or states

You may see a live demo of the component on these links:

Download JEvents

We are excited to be able to release JEvents 3.1 download_f2.  It is designed to be compatible will both Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.0 (For JEvents 2.2.8 which runs in Joomla 1.5.5 please see the download area).  There are a few new features such as the option to check for conflicting events specific to calendar, improved core Joomla SEF handling and the implemntation of a number of special module positions specific to JEvents.  Also its now possible to customise the event editing page. See the download area for a summary of the changes from version 2.2

JEvents 3.1.8+ has Joomla! updater support! For all the free and paid components, modules and plugins. Note an API key and active subscription is needed to update club add-ons, which you can get from our website.

JEvents 1.5.6 is still available but is no longer supported (see the bottom of this article for download links).

Extra Features - Available to Club Members

1. Location/Venue Manager (used in the demo)

A special add on component for managing events locations and venues complete with geocoding and Google Maps.  You can even create menu items or modules for specific calendars for events at specific locations.

You can also display a map of locations beneath your main calendar - see this article for a demonstration.

2. Special Layouts (used in the demo)

2.1 Ruthin

Take a look at the Ruthin Layout in the demo. This uses a radically new layout arrangement where multiday events really span many days in the calendar.

The Ruthin layout is available in 4 colour schemes (and more can easily be added).

Ruthin BlueRuthin GreenRuthin RedRuthin Purple

2.2 Extplus

Take a look at the Extplus Layout in the demo.  This combined the radically new layout arrangement of the Ruthin layout with the styling of the popular Ext layout.  The best of both worlds.

The Extplus layout is currently only available Gray (visible on the demo site) and Blue, Green, Red and Purple.

2.3 Iconic

Take a look at the Iconic Layout here.

3. Managed People/Teams/Resources

You want to create a managed list of artists, event promoters or even the people responsible for making the tea after the event.  The Managed people addon allows you to do this.  Create a menu item or modules for the events associated with one or more artists!

You can use this addon on a sport event calendar - you can associate teams with matches allowing the easy filtering of the calendar by teams.

4. Personal Private Events (used in the demo)

Do your users need to specify that some events can only be viewed by themselves and no one else.  With this Jevents plugin this is now possible.  The plugin can also be used to search for events by creator.  If you login as a demo user and go to the main demo page you can add an event, remember to mark this as private and save it.  The when you view the demo calendar you will see this private event that only this user can view.  If you log out or login as another demo user you will not be able to see this event.

Also if you are logged in to the demo you will see a "private events" sub menu item under Demo - this only shows a user's own private events.

5. Community Builder and JomSocial Plugins

Want to show a list of events created by your CB or JomSocial members?  These plugin adds a user tab to their profile listing the latest event for this user and even offers a link to a full calendar of events they created.  More features will be added later.  Note that these plugins are in final testing and is currently available from the Club Forum.

The JomSocial plugin can be used to mark an event as private to a user's friends - i.e. only the author and his/her confirmed friends can view the event.  See the demo videos here.

6. Event Registration, Invites and Reminders

Do you need to know who is going to attend your event?  Do you want to invite certain users and make the event invitation and attendance list private to these invitees?  To you want to enable your users to request event reminder emails?  Do you want to charge your attendees to attend your events (using Paypal, Authorize.net or even via Virtuemart)?

This addon (available to Gold Club Members) allows you to do all of this.  There are demo videos showing some of the functionality:

  • RSVP Pro - Event Registrations
  • RSVP Pro - Event Invitations
  • RSVP Pro - Event Reminders
  • RSVP Pro - Demo of Managing Attendees

All can be found here:

7. Calendar Specific Menu Item and Modules

This addon allows you to create multiple native calendar in the backend of JEvents and associate these with menu items and modules in the same way that you can do with categories.

This means that you can share 'slice' your data in 2 dimensions e.g. a sports club site can now have a calendar called "men", a calendar called "women" and a calendar called "children" and share the same categories ("tennis", "swimming", "kayaking" etc.)  across all the calendars.

8. Simple Event Registration

If RSVP Pro is more sophisticated than you need but that you need to know who is going to attend your event.  This simple plugin allows logged in users to record their intention to attend the event and to list the attendees in the event detail page.

9. Featured Events Modules and Calendars

With the featured events plugin you can mark events as featured/high priority and create featured events modules and calendars.

10. Attend JEvents - Advanced Event Registration Component

This is an advanced registration component that allows you to create complex forms, add guest registrations, accept payments via PayPal.  This only supports Joomla 1.5 - for Joomla 2.5 you should look at RSVP Pro (No. 6 above)

See the quick intro demo.

11. JEvents Tagging

Tag events with one or more predefined tags and create menu items or module matching these tags.  Available for testing in the silver/gold member forum.

12. Custom Fields

Do you need to add custom fields to your event descriptions?  This is now easy with the JEvents Silver member Custom Fields addon.   The Custom Fields addon allows you to add custom fields into your event.  The available field types are:

  • Select List (choose one item from dropdown)
  • Text Box
  • Text Area
  • Boolean (Yes/No)
  • Radio boxes
  • Multiple Select List (choose one or more items from dropdown)
  • Youtube videos
  • Custom files/images
  • ... More types being added all the time

Configuration is done via a simple XML file (there are detailed notes on how to set this up and a comprehensive sample file).  If you want to add your own custom field types this is fairly striaghtforward is you have some basic PHP skills .

13. Anonymous Event Creation

With this plugin you can configure Jevents so that non-logged in users can create events that must then be approved prior to publication on your site.  There is a demo video of this feature in action available here.

14. Twitter/Facebook Updates via AutoTweet Plugin

This plugin feeds JEvents event creation into the AutoTweetNG plugin so allow updates of Twitter and Facebook when creating (and optionally updating) events.  This JEvents club addon requires the AutoTweet Component in order to function.

15. And more...

  • CCK linkage - link K2, EasyBlog or SobiPro listings to your events
  • Standard files/images - create stardised layouts with images for your events
  • Agenda/Minutes - link Joomla articles to your events
  • Private Events - make events private so only the logged in users or JomSocial/CB friends can see the event
  • New Event Notification
  • ..... to many to list here!

How can you get hold of these extras?

JEvents is a open source project that doesn't charge you to download and use the application unlike other components like JCal Pro.  Membership is reasonably priced and you will get access to exclusive club benefits:

  • Exclusive club member forums which will always get priority in terms of support response
  • Exclusive club member documentation and demo videos/tutorials
  • Access to pre-releases of new versions
  • Access to club member only addons like the locations manager, event registration component etc.

Conclusion

JEvents will continue to be OpenSource and  the core component, modules and search plugins will continue to be free to download.  If you choose to join the club you will be helping to keep the project going and also get access to lots of extra features and goodies.

JEvents for Joomla 3.0

We are working hard on the making JEvents compatible with Joomla 3.0 and are excited to tell you that the alpha release of JEvents 3.0 is now ready for testing.

The new version (to be called JEvents 3.0) will be compatible with Joomla 3.0 AND Joomla 2.5 and will be based on JEvents 2.2.   Please note that JEvents 3.0 will NOT be compatible with Joomla 1.5 and so JEvents 2.2.x will be the last version of JEvents for Joomla 1.5.  We will not be introducing any new features into JEvents 2.2.x and will only issue new releases that fix security issues or major bugs.

By finally leaving support for Joomla 1.5 behind we can start implementing a series of changes in JEvents to bring it up to date.  We will be making layouts more consistent with Joomla 2.5/3.0 standards, taking advantage of new features that were not available in Joomla 1.5 etc.

We will be migrating the club addons as soon as possible after JEvents is stable on Joomla 3.0.

In the meantime we would recommend that you do NOT upgrade production Joomla 2.5 sites to Joomla 3.0 until you are sure all your non-core Joomla addons are compatible.  Even then you should recognise that Joomla 3.0 will be changing a lot over the next few months as new features are added so you should make sure you are comfortable with being on the bleeding edge before comitting to upgrading your site.

Stop Press : You can now start testing JEvents 3.0 for Joomla 3.0 and 2.5.

Pricing Changed to British Pounds (£)

With the steady and ongoing decline in the value of the Euro in recent weeks we have been forced to change our pricing from Euros to British Pounds (our base currency).

We have converted the prices at the average exchange rates during 2010 & 2011.   Therefore most customers outside the Euro area will see prices similar to those they would have paid during the last 2 years.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our European customers.
