JEvents 2.2 offers the following extra features over JEvents 2.1 :

Permissions in JEvents 2.2 for multi-category events

Access : If an event is in mulitple categories then so long as the visitor has access to any of the categories the event can be viewed.

Editing/Publishing/Deleting : If an event is in mulitple categories then the visitor MUST have the required permission on ALL the categories before the action can be performed on the event.

JEvents 2.1 (for Joomla 1.5,  1.7 and 2.5) incorporated a number of new features:

  • Configurable option to block overlapping event by calendar as well as by category (or plugin specific checks)
  • New SEF system (backwards compatible) - fewer duplicate pages and translatable URLs
    • Typical URLs now look like:
      • monthcalendar/2011/11/-
      • eventsbyweek/2011/11/6/- (day is always first day of the week)
      • eventsbyday/2011/11/06/-
      • eventdetail/1646/-/event-title
      • eventdetail/1646/-/weely-attendance-test
    • Task part of the URL can be translated
  • Add new option to redirect spiders/crawlers to crawler menu item - will dramatically reduce search engine traffic.
  • Special module positions to allow you to display instructions to site visitors/event creators or to place the other  related modules like the filter module in more helpful positions.  The positions include:
    • jevpretoolbar, jevpretoolbar_year.listevents, jevpretoolbar_week.listevents, jevpretoolbar_cat.listevents, jevpretoolbar_day.listevents, jevpretoolbar_month.calendar
    • jevposttoolbar, jevposttoolbar_year.listevents, jevposttoolbar_week.listevents, jevposttoolbar_cat.listevents, jevposttoolbar_day.listevents, jevposttoolbar_month.calendar
    • jevpostjevents, jevpostjevents_year.listevents, jevpostjevents_week.listevents, jevpostjevents_cat.listevents, jevpostjevents_day.listevents, jevpostjevents_month.calendar
    • jevpreeditevent, jevposteditevent, jevpreeditrepeat, jevposteditrepeat
  • New way of specifying category restrictions for menus/modules - a single multi-select field instead of 5-10 separate dropdowns.  This is only available in Joomla 1.7
  • Set display limit in lists to max of 100 items - to avoid server overload
  • Config option to select which icons to show in toolbar
  • Minor bug fixes including
    • calendar module navigation works even if alternative theme selected.
    • Don't clear out existing events if bad iCal import is encountered
    • CSS enhancements to avoid icons being not visible with some template club css
If you are not using an english version of JEvents you will need to add these lines (translated of course) to your language file (e.g. language/it-IT/it-IT.com_jevents.ini ) if you want to use the new SEF system (use no spaces and no special characters in your tranlsations)

Joomla 1.5 Language File Compatability Plugin

This is a system plugin that will allow Joomla 1.5 to use Joomla 2.5 language files.  If you are using Jevents 2.0 in Joomla 1.5 this system plugin is required.

It should be enabled and placed before any Joomla system plugins apart from Joomfish ones.  Version 1.3.4 fixes an issue with translating menu items using Joomfish.

Do not install or use this if you are using Joomla 2.5+ it is NOT needed.

Jevents 2.0 Beta - language file convertor

This is a tool for JEvents translators.  It will take your existing Joomla 1.5 language strings and convert these to the equivalent Joomla 1.6  format thereby making translation a little easier.

To use it

  • upload your existing ini files to the language and administrator/language folders on your Joomla 1.6 server .
  • unzip and upload this file to the root of your server
  • run the script in your browser e.g. http://www.jevents.net/convertLanguageFile.php

Changes

  • version 2 : _QQ_ myst now be "_QQ_" - script now does this instead.  You may need to start with a fresh language file before re-running the script.
SmartSearch/Finder Plugin
