Hello, I'm using JEvents in Version 3.2.21 on a Joomla 3.6.0. Joomla is migrated from 2.5 to 3.x and in runs without any problems.

Now I want to migrate JEvents from 3.2.21 to 3.4.16 and it's impossible. Both ways, update automatically and update by installing 3.4.16 at the backend, failed. In both cases I got the messages:

Warning: Copy file failed
Package update: When you install the extension, an error occurred: com_jevents.zip
and
message
Failed to update package.

Is anything corrupt, do you have a migrating Guide? Do I have to upgrade another way?

thx alot!

Hello,

I suspect you are running out of space in your web host and therefore the package has become corrupt. Can you please check?

Many thanks
Tony

sorry Tony, i didn't get mail about a reply in my post. I have an managed server so I think it doesn't run out of space.
In top of Joomla! is a massage "Some update sources are disabled. Please check this by updating sources." but there are all activated. JEvents update available will be shown but fail.

It's possible to update manually by copying files with FTP?

thank you

You can download the package and upload it to your server to a temporary folder and then use the Joomla install from directory/folder option.

I extracted the file "jevents34_3.4.16.zip" and tryed to install the files from a temporary directory. I also tried to install it from URL. In both cases I get the same errormessage:

Warning: Copy file failed
Package update: When you install the extension, an error occurred: com_jevents.zip
and
message
Failed to update package.

If you have enough space as you stated before, the only reason for the update to fail seems to me a bad permission in any file. One quick solution could be change all your file and folder permissions to 777, perform the upgrade and then revert permissions back to 755 for folders and 644 for files (Admin Tools extension for Akeeba does a good job with this).

If that fixes the issue, you should check with your host as you should not have to modify permissions to update a Joomla! extension.

Thank you! update was successfully after changing permissions! Something I can not explain is, that Joomla itself, any other Plugins or Components could be updated without any problems.

If it's an old installation, maybe is an old thing... In any case please remember to set permissions back to 644 for files and 755 for folders!!!

Great to hear, if you haven't already Akeeba Admin Tools provides a permissions fix that will check your whole Joomla! Installation.

Many thanks
Tony
