Hello.

I am considering buying a gold membership for downloading RSVP.

The purpose is to send SMS notifications to our users on upcoming events. But Im not sure if this is possible. By looking on the screenshots the option is there but it also says that it is on an experimental level.

So my question is: Is it possible to send out SMS notifications to our users on upcoming events?

We have implemented a SMS based reminders function but it requires you to use a special SMS gateway where you send an email to the gateway which triggers the email message.

What SMS system were you thinking of using?

Thank you for the quick reply.

I was considering using CPsms - https://www.cpsms.dk/login/index.php. But it is not a must. I just need to be able to send SMS to danish numbers.

Sorry - my Danish is limited so I don't see exactly how it works.

Do you send an email to a special email box and then the system takes the content of the email and then sends it out as an SMS?

I dont know much about this matter yet. I have just been asked to look into the possibility of sending out notification SMS's when a jEvent is approaching. And a quick google search revealed that RSVP might be the solution.

What do I need in order for this to work with danish numbers?

If you can find out how the SMS service works and give me a quick summary I can tell if you it fits into the RSVP Pro system.

Basically you would need an SMS gateway account at your service provider and RSVP Pro would send special emails to this service provider that would then generate the SMS message to send to your users.

Ok, i have checked https://smsgateway.dk/free1way/ which is also a danish supplier and they support "mail2SMS" which I am guessing is what you are referring to?

In which case we have a plugin for RSVP Pro that allows reminder emails to be sent to a mail2SMS service to generate the SMS. The recipient's mobile number is either stored in a custom JomSocial profile field or in an extended Joomla profile field.

Ok. When you say "extended Joomla profile field", does that mean i can create a field in "Community Builder" and use this to send to?
Sorry for my ignorance but this is new to me :-)

Or do I have to perform something like this: http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/ ... ile-plugin

....or am I totally off target?

you have 2 options
1. Use JomSocial (as opposed to community builder) to add a custom profile field
or
2. Add profile fields just as you see in the article you linked to

Personally I think Joomla needs to make it easier to add profile fields

Ok, thank you the great help.

Just to sum up (let me know if I have missed anything):
- When purchasing RSVP Pro component and using a SMS gateway supporting mail2sms I have the opportunity to send out notification SMSs on all upcoming events in "JEvents".
- The SMS number can be stored in an extended Joomla profile field as described in http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/ ... ile-plugin

Last questions.
- Is it possible to assign a usergroup to the sending out SMS notifications to a JEvents Category? For example: I have a JEvents category called "Games" containing all game events of the season. Is it possible to create a Joomla User Group with a number of users and assign the group to the category in order for the to automatically receive the notification SMS prior of the game?

- IF RSVP is not what I am searching for after trying it, is it possible to get my money back?

We are talking about using RSVP Pro reminders - these are configured to be sent 'x' hours before the event takes place. They are not notifications of new events.

It sounds as though you may actually be more interested in notifications of new events as opposed to a reminder of upcoming events - is that correct?

If so we have a different addon that would do that.

If the addon(s) don't do what you need then please send me a refund request via PM.

Your first assumption was correct. I am searching for a reminder of existing events.

BUT the users are not booked into events. I just want to send a reminder of "this event category" to "that joomla user group". Is that possible?

Reminders must be specifically requested by the user OR you can setup what we call 'auto-reminders'. These can pick up on the settings of the notifications module - in other words your users would use a module on your site to say which notifications they are interested in (based on event category) and then they would be auto-reminded of events falling into these categories.

Its beginning to sound promising :-)

So if I understand you correctly each user can set himself up to what JEvents categories he/she wishes event reminders from via a front-end module on the webpage.

You say "notifications module". That comes with RSVP right?

Hello kifjmo,

That is correct, although the notifications module is for silver members.

Thanks

Hello,

You will get complete access to ALL of the JEvents club addons and documentation.

After 12 months has passed, your site will function 100% as it is. But you will no longer be able to receive club updates or club support.

Thanks
Tony
