HI Guys,
I have been using MijoEvents on a couple of my sites and am now looking for a replacement extension for a number of reasons for about 6 sites.

Firstly can you confirm whether or not it is possible (or indeed advisable!) to import events from MijoEvents - if so how?

Secondly, is it possible to arrange for a deposit payment to be taken for an event in some cases and the full amount for others? (this is likely to be to a PayPal account and I understand I would need the RSVP pro addon)

Thirdly, we use Google calendar to control much of the activity for one of the sites in question so it would be really useful if we could sync TO the Google calendar from JEvents - is this possible?

Lastly, I have two associated sites which both have a calendar of events on. SOME of the events appear on both sites, is it possible to share an event on one site with the other (even if this is an export/import option - just saves typing the whole thing out again every time!) what would you advise?

My thanks in anticipation for your responses...

Hello NickQ,

1. They offer an iCal Export so you should be able to import the basic event information.

2. You can setup events to all have different templates. You would only allow deposits for the entire event or full payments. You are right RSVP Pro with the Gold Membership.

3. This certainly is possible with our iCal Export Menu item. You can add the Google Calendar link from the menu item configuration, so when exporting the events just click google calendar and if you are logged in then it should open a new window.

4. It certainly is. You could have a calendar in each site and call it to sync or something, then create an export menu item, install the Calendar Specific Menus and modules plugin first. Configure the menu item to be set to that specific calendar. Generate the export and copy the download ical file url and then create a new calendar on the site you want to import events into, select from url and enter the url.

I hope this helps with your decision.

Many thanks
Tony

We started out developing a site in RSEvents Pro and now b/c of the client's needs and the lack of responsive design we are needing to go in a different direction. So we are looking at JEvents. My question is related to migrating the events from RSEvents Pro into JEvents. What do we need to do to get that done? Is it possible as long as we have an ical or some other type of export?

I need to know pretty quickly on this since our client is expecting a finished site by the end of the week.

Thanks!

JEvents is able to import events in ical and csv formats so if you have any of these you can easily import your events into a JEvents install.

JEvents component is free so I suggest you take a look and check if it can do what you need, and ask here if you need further guidance ;) or check our Documentation section: http://www.jevents.net/docs

Also regarding events import you may check this link:

I visited both links. However they both mention CSV Export. I understand that it seems there is also an iCal import option. However I don't see anywhere in JEvents backend where I can import anything. And it also says in the documentation that iCal imported items will look and act differently. Your documentation is unclear. Please advise. I am trying to migrate events from one to the other.

Simply create a new calendar in the backend of JEvents of type 'from URL' (or from a file upload for a one-off import).

What about my 2nd question? I read that imported iCal events will act different/have different info in back end.

Hello,

Where did you read this?

If you import from URL as an autoupdating calendar. Then yes you cannot add to that calendar. but the info will be the same as any other import.

Thanks
Tony

I am trying to use CSV Export-Import to copy all my jEvents data from a J2.5 site to a J3.3 site that's under construction. I read in the "Import CSV" docs that
You can use a CSV file where ever you would import an iCal file in JEvents.

However, when I tried to import from a file, choosing the CSV file I produced in J2.5 , I get an error message

Error
Not a valid VCALENDAR data file: extract_2014_12_03.csv

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

It should import if it is valid. Do you have a sample?

Why are you not just update Joomla! 2.5 to Joomla! 3.3?

You can use the JEvents iCal Export menu item to generate an iCal file. Unless you have other fields which are not exported with the ical.

Thanks
Tony

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I tried to include the uploaded file with my post but apparently it didn't take. File I was trying to upload SHOULD be attached.

"Update Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.3"? Using Joomla's core function? I am making new articles, custom CSS and so forth and am afraid all these will get wiped out if I use the Joomla update. If I thought it would bring over content (including JEvents) I would do it. I did try it a year or so ago and it threw many errors and didn't get the job done.

Hadn't tried the iCal export menu item.

I'm unable to uncompress that file - could you try a .zip or .gz file instead?

did you try the iCal export menu item now?

p.s. If you clone your existing site you should be able to do the upgrade on the clone to see how it behaves before doing the upgrade on your live site.

Sorry for the delay. I have recreated a CSV file with only the current and future years in it to get it under the 256KM upload limit. Original ZIP file was around 257KB and 7zip file was 222K.

I have forgotten where I found the iCal/CSV import so haven't tried with the smaller CSV file. And when/if I find that import link I will try to expirt an iCal file and import it. Meanwhile I am searching for the import link.

the CSV file doesn't have quotes around the field names/column headings or to signify the blank fields.

e.g. you have

?Title,Category,Description,Location,StartDate,StartTime,EndDate,EndTime,Creator,Contact,Tags,Keywords,Field2,Image1,Image1Title
"Daylight Savings Time Ends",Default,,,2014-11-02,02:00am,2014-11-02,,"juliahardy(Julia Hardy)",,,,,n/a,n/a

Whereas you should try something more like this
"?Title","Category","Description","Location","StartDate","StartTime","EndDate","EndTime","Creator","Contact","Tags","Keywords","Field2","Image1","Image1Title"
"Daylight Savings Time Ends","Default","","","2014-11-02","02:00am","2014-11-02","","juliahardy(Julia Hardy)","","","","","n/a","n/a"

I would still recommend using a clone website to test the native upgrade to Joomla 3.x as a better approach overall.

I was able to use the menu item to create an .ics file which imported OK. Sorry I didn't try to get this to work first and I wouldn't have bothered you.

The csv file was created by JEvents' "printcsvevents.php" file I downloaded from the link on the bottom of the page at http://www.jevents.net/docs/jevents/ite ... -of-events, which perhaps should have inserted quotation marks if they're required for the import.

Overall, the issue of export and import seems not to be well documented. Perhaps one might look at writing up a step-by-step approach.

I'm still leery of the Joomla upgrade approach - if it didn't work I'd have to figure out how to restore an Akeeba backup of my test site, which I guess would take yet another couple of hours from my work-day. I have about everything I need moved over now including, with this technique, all my calendar events.

Thanks,
Jim

Hello Jim,

Then use the iCal Export And create a new calendar on the new site to import.

But the Joomla! upgrade should be first and foremost on a new clone of the live site. Once done transfer the clone to live.

Note, the easiest way to make it pain free is to upgrade all J2.5 extensions first as they are likely then going to be 3.3 compatible.

Thanks
Tony
