Hello,
i have some questions before buying/using JEvents.
I need to create a website with calendar where users add events with standard field and a custom field containing a telephone number.
The questions are:
1- The telephone number custom field can be written on a separate SQL database with some plugin?
In other words, is possibile to define where to save different fields on the event creation mask?
2- When the user browse the calendar, after selecting an event (previously created) i need that in the event description, appears a button which send an SMS to the telephone number added during the event creation. Is it possible writing some code? How can i access by code to a custom field of an event?

Thanks a lot for the support.
Best regards!

There is a custom field addon for JEvents that could capture the telephone number (http://www.jevents.net/products-new/add ... tom-fields) - at present there is no mechanism to send an SMS to this number.

Are you thinking of contact the author via SMS type form where the visitor can ask a question?

How would you avoid this being abused by spammers?

There is a contact form mechanism you could use and possibly couple this with an email to SMS gateway.

Basically if you give us more detailed information we may be able to recommend a suitable solution

The goal is that when the user select an event pre-registered by him, he can send an sms to the phone number linked to the event.
To send the sms i am using a web service by which i can send the sms simply visiting a html webpage: the address of the webpage contains SMS_account info, the phone number and the message.
So, when the user will press the button "Send SMS", in the background, the code will have to take the phone number, to create a correct html address with it and to launch it.
Do you think this is feasible with jEvents? My main doubt is how to extract the custom field "phone number".
If the description is not clear please ask me.

Thanks a lot!

I'm not sure I completely understand
The goal is that when the user select an event pre-registered by him, he can send an sms to the phone number linked to the event.

what do you mean by "pre-registered by him"? Is this only for logged in users? Is this user 'invited' to this event?

How do you stop search engine robots or malicious users triggering LOTS of 'spam' SMS messages.

Does this message include information about the logged in visitor?

It should be feasible but will need some custom work but from what I understand of your requirements its not too complex.

Hello GeraInt,
thanks for your kind replies.

what do you mean by "pre-registered by him"? Is this only for logged in users? Is this user 'invited' to this event?

The website will be used by users which have an activity (doctors, car's mechanics, etc.). With the calendar (every user must see only his own events), they will have the possibility to record their customer's appointments (i.e. a person which have to fix his car) in a certain date and time and recording the customer phone number. Referring to this example, when the machine will be fixed, the mechanic will go to the calendar, will select the event and will click a button which will send an sms the customer.

How do you stop search engine robots or malicious users triggering LOTS of 'spam' SMS messages.

About the possibility of spam, i am thinking to separate the number in 3 different fields (nationa prefix - local prefix - number). I hope this will avoid the automatic spam but, honestly, i am not so sure.

Does this message include information about the logged in visitor?

The message will not contain informations about the logged in visitor. An example of sms will be "Hello, your car is ready. You can pick it up when you want."

Thanks again! :)

ok - then this can be achieved in a slightly different way. We would use the RSVP Pro event attendance, invitations and reminders addon.

You would create the appointment and mark it visible only to invitees/attendees and then invite the customer to the event (the message can be customised) or add the customer as an attendee.

If the customer is setup as a Joomla user then using a Joomla extended profile (or Jomsocial) we could store the mobile number of the customer in their profile.

There is already an 'email attendees' function built in to the addon so that would be used to send an email message to the customer. If you want to send an SMS we would need to add a new custom field - which would involve some custom coding which I would need to charge for.

Hi, I am interested in purchasing jevents once again. I plan on upgrading software to 3.0 soon so that i can take advantage of Jevents new features and updates . I've been using your software successfully for the last 3 years - thank you for producing a great calendar to showcase community events. One issue that I would like to solve is to showcase events on the home page. Currently I'm showcasing articles as pictures with one featured article below that. The problem is that I update events frequently and would like the beautiful images I receive to be showcased on the home page, without doing too much work outside of adding the event to the calendar. In addition, people often come to the home page to see what's new and events are an easy way to always keep the site fresh. I know that you now have a module that rotates images and that is good. That may work well for me. Please visit my homepage and let me know if there is another approach that you might recommend without changing the overall feel of the site. http://www.warwickvalleyliving.com/

Thank you for your input. I'm looking forward subscribing again. Best, George

Hello George,

We do have the slideshow module showing 1 event at a time, you could also use this three times, with the time limit plugin, 1 showing events from day 1, another showing x events from day 2 and so on.

Or you could use the JEvents Agenda and Minutes plugin to automatically create the article for you from the event description? and have the article redirect to the event?

Many thanks
Tony
