Hello,
We are looking to use an Event Management system for Events that will include 20,000 - 50,000 attendees. I would like to understand more around the ticketing process as well as the "check in" process.

We need to provide each paid attendee with an emailed ticket which as they arrive at the venue to scan their qr code on the ticket with Android/iPhone device and confirm registration and "check in" the attendee to prevent fraudulent tickets. In addition, if an attendee pays for an additional package such as a camping voucher how is that reflected on the ticket? Is this information easily accessible through the QR code on the ticket?

Does this system have this capability? Also, do you have any existing clients using JEvents with over 10,000 attendees for a single event?

I have many other questions as well around scalability but these particular questions above are showstoppers.

Thanks!

Hello Tschoch,

Welcome to JEvents!

Ok no problem, This is all possible. The event creator logs in and then on the logged in device they scan the QR code to check in.

The Ticket can contain the QR Code. It is customisable with HTML and you can include the additional fields, you can include all the Events information on the ticket if you wanted to.

It does indeed :-).

We have seen it used in many scenarios for many event based registration websites. The only issues I can foresee are listing of the Attendees can be quite resource intensive depending on this need for this in the frontend? Otherwise it should handle it perfectly fine.

Having a website of such a scale, we would of course suggest using a PHP Cache like opcache included in PHP5.5 and Joomla's own cache to make you site run smooth and reduce load.

Many thanks
Tony

Thank you for the helpful info. One other question on the ticketing system. What (if any) measures do you have in place for mitigating fraudulent ticket attempts? Are ticket numbers randomly generated, etc? Can you limit the number of check-ins for each ticket?

Tickets can be checked only by authorised logged in users via a QR code and can only be checked in once. If a second attempt is made it is blocked.

The ID embedded in the URL within the QR code is encoded with an md5 generated checksum which includes a secret string that you configure on your site as part of the key.

Is there a recommended QR Scanner App for iOS, Android, etc? Most I find have their own browser built in which is not maintaining my session

Hello Tschoch,

Not a recommended one. Ideally find an app with replaces the keyboard? and holding a button opens the scanner. For example:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... demo&hl=en

Thanks
Tony
