Support for multiple time zones

This is something we are planning for JEvents 3.2 - prior to this we will giving an option to show the 'creator' timezone alongside the time of an event

sorry - these things end up taking longer than expected. We're putting the finishing touches to a new version of the jevents.net website - once this is done we'll be able to starting working on new features like this.

Here is some some more background information for our requirements:
I would like to use JEvents for conference call scheduling across multiple time zones. For me, in the short term, it would be OK for the organiser to enter the time in a fixed time zone (server tz?) and for the calendar entry to display in a known time zone, but ... do the event invitations and reminders include the timezone information? If so, then I assume that the invitation will import correctly into the subscribers' calendar app - e.g. Outlook, Lightning etc?

The iCal invitations from RSVP Pro include the timezone information for the event - so the importing software should translate this time into the relevant timezone of the application concerned

Hello Geraint, I wanted to check again with you how this project is going, could you give us an update?

I have been working on a basic timezone display option to allow you to show multiple timezones in your event description and list views and also the option to display the event time in the logged in user's preferred timezone. What this WON'T do is define 'today' based on these timezones so if you look at events on 8th May 2014 they will be the events on the 8th in the JEvents timezone as opposed to the 8th in the visitor's timezone.

If you can live with this functionality for now then I can make a version available for testing later today if you open a new topic in the silver/gold member forum where I'll upload the package.

I think this would already be a brilliant addition for us, just a couple more questions:
How is a users perferred timezone defined?
Can we choose for each event which timezones to be displayed in the event description, ie some events display CET and PDT, and another event PDT and MDT?

1. user's timezone is via their Joomla profile
2. No - you would use the layout editor and display the times/timezones you want to show but it would affect all events.

Ok, this will still be much better than our current system with timezone converters

Here is an example of what I'd like to do:

A calendar contains i) conference calls and ii) face to face meetings
Ideally...
the conference calls are displayed in the Time Zone of the person viewing the calendar.
the face to face meetings are displayed in the Time Zone where the meeting will occur.

This could be 2 separate calendars.

Please can you confirm functionality for latest version of JEvents:

1) Events are displayed in the user's configured time zone?
2) Calendar reminders are sent with Time zone included, so therefore will be correctly entered into Outlook, Google calendar etc?
3) Is the timezone selectable when adding a new event, or ...
is it entered in the user time zone, or ...
is it entered in the server time zone?
4) Is it possible to display the timezone for the event on the calendar - e.g. from a variable?

At present there is a single timezone setting for the overall calendar and all events are created in this timezone. We are working on a timezone value to be set during event creation but this is not yet ready for use.

iCal exports include the timezone values and so will be imported correctly into Google calendar and other calendars that support timzone settings

Note that iCal import DO respect the timezone of the imported data source.
