Adding a "Read More"-line in event description does not seem to have any impact in detailed event view or event list. It adds a horisontal line, but no "Read More"- functionlality like in joomla articles (split between intro and main text). It would be really useful on events that have long descriptions. Maybe I've misunderstood something?
I use JCE editor, by the way.

Hello,

ahh my apologies I didn't notice 'List of Events Menu Item' You are right, this particular one only shows the fields you select.

You have two options,

1. use extra info for a brief description and then a link
2. use a list type (not list of events) menu item, i.e. year, week, category or day.

Many thanks
Tony

Hello,

I'm afraid this method does not work in JEvents. You would be best of using the JEvents truncated descriptions. So they are always the same length and you show a read more link.

Many thanks
Tony

Thanks. What does "JEvents truncated descriptions" imply?

It means it 'Truncates' the text to a set length automatically :-)

And how do I achieve that? In event list, all the text in description field is displayed. I see how I can truncate description in latest events module, but how can I apply this to a List of events menu item?

Hello,

Did you look in the Custom Layout for the list row? You can select the truncated tag from the right?

In the module is a little more complicated you can use:
${content(120|...)}

Which would show 120 characters as per:
https://www.jevents.net/frequently-asked-questions/custom-format-strings

Many thanks

Thanks. So when I've made the custom list view with truncated description, how can I connect that to the standard menu item List of Events? Or is it a totally different menu item I should use? Reason I ask is because the truncated field is not available in that menu item.

Hello,

How do you mean connect it? If you apply it to: JEvents -> Custom Layouts -> List Row it will apply to all JEvents List Views.

Many thanks

I may have som learning to do here. so bear with me.
I've established the menu item "List of events". Its the standard menu item where you can choose which fields to display (and the order of the fields). As the truncated desc field is not among the fields that can be chosen for this particular menu item list, I wondered how I could display the truncated desc in that particular list
What you are saying, is that the desc field will be truncated anyhow, I guess? I'll test it later today.
