Hi - we used jEvents with RSVPPro a few years ago to manage our canoe club and are hoping to return.

We want to allow parents to register their children for various events. We want to store information (such as address, emergency contact details etc.) about each adult & child, and have this linked to the registration. (We don't want the parent to have to type this in each time). The event organiser will then be able to view this information for participants.

Is there some way of doing this? When we used JEvents before, the participant or parent had to type all the info in each time they signed up for an event.

Kind regards,
Mark

No separate profiles needed in Joomla

You would create custom use fields e.g. child name, child allergies, child DOB etc. and mark these as 'subform only' then create a new field of type subform called 'child details' and set it to allow multiple entries

Then when you edit your user profile you can add each of your children's details to your main profile.

The bit that we are missing is the ability to select which child/children to attach to an event booking - we can write this in the next couple of weeks

The problem with separate child profiles in Joomla is controlling who can attach which child to an event - i.e. privqcy issues

Hi Geraint - have you had a chance to think about this? We're keen to get the new website built in time for soft launch over the (quieter) winter season. Kind regards, Mark

Sorry to hear that - hope you're fully recovered!

Thanks Geraint, that sounds really positive, but I'm not sure I fully understand how it would work:
- I am a parent of 2 children. I have a Joomla user profile, which can store my own medical info with fields like "emergency_contact_name", "emergency_contact_number" etc. This can be populated to the booking automatically when I book myself onto an event.

- do the children have their own Joomla user profiles, or is the info somehow stored in the parent's account (with fields like "child1_emergency_contact_name", "child1_emergency_contact_number")?

- in either event, how can the parent book their child onto an event?

- is there a plugin you recommend to deal with the extra user profile fields?

Kind regards,
Mark

Hi Mark - I was unwell after returning from summer hols :( Sorry for the delayed response.

You can add custom fields to the user profile in Joomla 5 to hold information about children. This could be a sub-form field which would allow multiple entries i.e. each entry would hold all relevant information about the child i.e. you could add a child at a time rather than having multiple names, medical infos, contacts etc.

We don't currently have a 'select one of several custom field value' field type but could easily add one.

Let me know when you are ready to go and I can code that up.
