The ISP that hosts my Joomla site limits me to 100 email an hour and 2000 a day. Thus I need to Pace the outgoing emails and potentially I might need to delay the beginning of the email cron as I might have had another component also sending emails. Does this exist in any version of JEvents? I only have 500 entries in my "Contacts" so the total volume should not be a problem. Note that these are contacts and not users. I hope that all of this just works.

Thanks
WJ

Hello WJ,

I'm afraid not at present.

In this case I would suggest using SMTP and connecting to a mail server which allows this.

Thanks
Tony

Thanx Tony,

Tell me, Does JEvents send out one email for every contact to which email is sent, OR does it send one email with 500 addresses in the BCC?
If it sends unique messages, I think that I can add a wait to the PHP Loop.
If it send one big email then I am up against another hard stop as the ISP also limits me to 100 addresses per message.
If we can not make this work then I might be forced to find another extension. I will look around for another SMPT provider, cuz I want RSVP Pro.

WJ.

P.S. I am having a problem getting JEvents to work on the front end.

Hello,

JEvents uses the Joomla! mailer. We send one email per invite, notification etc.

This is the correct way of doing it.

I will speak with Geraint about the possibility of implementing a one stop mail que and we run a single cron. Although don't hold you hopes up as I suspect this is a LOT of work..

Thanks
Tony

Tony, I agree with you that a one for one approach is the best solution and really the only way to do a good mail merge implementation. I can speak from experience in Joomla 2.5 that the "Mass Mail Users" sends one message with all of the recipients in either the BCC or the TO. I was not impressed.

So, if I understand your approach, you advocate writing all of the emails to a file and have a cron job take them out one at a time with a delay between each send.

I like your asynchronous approach as it frees up Joomla for other stuff. And I think that you are running one job instead of resubmitting itself every minute. Your approach does not add as much overhead and is not limited to one minute increments.

Thanx. . .I will not hold my breath.

WJ.

In RSVP Pro the reminders are sent in batches e.g. 20 emails per cronjob instance. As Tony mentioned - they are each individualised emails since they may contain personal information e.g. the recipients name.

Invitation messages are sent to all the invitees in one pass - though I guess we could throttle this if necessary but as the invitations are triggered manually by the event creator.

another thought is the new events notifications plugin - this again send the email in batches and driven by a cronjob so this may be a good way of letting your contacts know of the new event.

My website is trying to run Jevents.
Follow the link to see the image issue. On my front end I am trying to create an event. That gives this graphic artifact. Any advice? I can give you credentials.

Joomla 2.5.14
Jevents 3.1.12
Template is Gantry V 4.1.19
Client is Chrome Version 31.0.1650.57 m

On another site: http://www.sacramentocursillo.org .
I almost have the front end working. Viewing the calendar for visitors and users is perfect. When I login to create an event something goes arye.
Here are the symptoms. With a test user who has access to adding events, I can click on the "Create Event" menu choice. Up pops a screen that completely covers the web page/template. If I save an event the screen changes to the event detail screen inside of my template. If I "apply" the same event, the whole screen goes white with a small dialog box that says event saved. When I click OK it goes back to a smaller page but still shows none of the template screen. If I try to cancel it locks up without any menu's. I can get back by hitting several back arrows. Now when I go to the calendar page and add an event from there, I can access every feature.
As soon as I get through this issue, I plan to go live with the site.

Hello,

The front end is poorly formed because your template does not take into consideration people using administrative functions on the front end.

We would normally take a look at your site and provide you with CSS changes to tidy it up for Silver Club members.

On your other site can you press f12 in chrome and try again? Do you see any errors in the console?

Thanks
Tony

Thanks Tony, Do you want me to move my question to another thread?

The pressing issue today is the add an event screen on the front end. When I choose the menu item to add an event, it takes over the whole browser page. I want to get the "add event" back into my template.

If I use the Add an Event on the Calendar page it works better, but that might be because I am working in a pop-out page.

Thanks
WJ
