When I use the float layout, the boxes appear below eachoter even though I selected three colums in bakaend
Also, there is no space at all between the boxes

That's really strange. Can you please provide super user details? into the site details tab on reply would be fine.

Not sure why but I got it solved. Must have been a problem with my template that I accidentally fixed :)

I have patched around it for now on your site. Sorry about the response delay.. But it's still not quite right, I need to re-work the float theme methods slightly :-(.
