Hi, we are looking into purchasing RSVP Pro (Gold membership) to integrate with HikaShop to use the PayPal Adaptive payment system. PayPal Adaptive supports a large number of currencies. Our members will be operating from different part of the world, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and America. Can our members be able to set their local currencies (supported by PayPal) and their currency gets displayed in the Events list? Is their any limitation on which currency a member could use?

If your organisers are able to create their own templates this would be the best solution - they could create these by copying and customising a shared one that you create

Sorry for the multiple posts but I'm thinking it could be even be a better solution where an organizer creates a template with his preferred currency and that will be the default currency will be used whenever he creates an event. The key here is if there is limitations as every organizer will create their own preferred template which will have their preferred currency and any other settings. This should make the event creation simple.

Hi Geraint, I have been thinking about this further and wondering how complicated it will be if currency preference is set per the organizer once. And each time the organizer creates an event his preferred or default curriency will be used. This maybe the best solution where once an organizer sets his currency he no longer have to deal with selecting which template to use. And my proposal to select Currency in the form is not needed. The idea is organizers in different regions would be able to use their preferred local currency.

Per your suggested setting up pre-configured templates you mentioned only 9-10 templates. Is there a limitation on a number of templates?

No there is not any limitation. Actually your event creators might have their own customized templates too.

I do understand not to create complications as it needs to be kept simple and user friendly. Do you happen to have a demo site to test the with your suggested small change of config file on RSVP Pro?

We don't want to add too much complexity to the event editing page and currently only offer the option to override a single fixed price in the template. Changing the currency is quite specialised so its unlikely we would add this as an option from the event editing page when there are other means of setting the currency.

Hi Geraint, thanks for the response however your solution seems like a temporary work around and still supports very limited number of currencies. It actually becomes more complicated when several currencies are required to support several regions. A great solution would have been simply having a single template but select the required currency from a drop down.

I'm including Geraint's response in my email first as I did not see it part of this conversation . . .

"In the RSVP Pro config on the 'currency/formatting' tab you can set the DEFAULT currency for the session templates/events.

Then when you create or edit a template via htts://http://www.yourdomain.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_rsvppro&task=templates.edit&cid[]=0 and enable fees you can override this via the "payments config" options.

You could actually create 9-10 templates (based on copies of one master template) all with different currencies - so your event creator could choose "$ Tickets", "IDR Tickets", "THB Tickets" , "JPY Tickets" etc."

Is there a way I could test the different currency per event configuration? Not sure what you meant by "via small change in the RSVP Pro Config file".

I prefer to deploy a preset Template that would cover the majority for ease of management and standardization. Then deal with the exceptions and eventually come up with few more alternate preset templates.

Now I understand. We do offer the ability to set a different currency per event but this is set in the session template. This list can be constrained by the site administrator (but this would be via a small change in the RSVP Pro config files).

Will your event creators be using a preset booking template (i.e. list of custom fields etc.) or creating their own per event?

Sorry for the confusion I thought I explained multiple times with different examples. Below is my thoughts and process.

1. The site admin will define the currencies that will be available for use by the providers. The list of currencies will be based on what PayPal supports.

2. Each event will have one provider and one currency.

3. A provider will have the choice to post an event from any of the available currencies for a single event.
Example: a provider in Bangkok Thailand can post the event price as 1000 Thai Baht and that is all the users have to see displayed. Users do not need to see any conversion of any other currency as they only relate to their local currency.

4. When a users selects the event in item 3 and checks out it will be up to them to choose which currency they want to pay with. PayPal will give them the option to pay in USD, EU or their local currency if available.

5. My very first inquiry is that JEvents should allow usage and display of any currency to for a single event by a provider. Instead of forcing to use a Global one currency for all events.

So to give you one more example if you live in Japan and want to book an event in Tokyo there is no reason you should be displaying any other currency except in Yen. The local people don't need to know any conversions of currency either. PayPal will take care of the conversions during check out time.

I am a little confused - I thought that your situation was that an event was priced in one currency (e.g. USD) and your visitor may be paying in another e.g. (Thai Bhat) and you wanted the visitor to get an idea of what the price would be in their currency before they start the registration/checkout process.

All Events have fixed prices. The key is to allow the providers to post with their preferred or local currency @ a fixed price. As described previously the available currencies could be set by the site admin. There is really no need to display any estimated price conversion as the users will get the converted price at the time they check out within PayPal.

on the JEvents site we display estimated prices in Euros and USD as well as GBP using the european central bank's daily benchmark exchange rates. It may be possible to include this output option for prices in RSVP Pro IF you evets have FIXED prices. It wouldn't work if the prices depended on the options that the visitors chose.

Hi, Thank you for taking your time on this subject. I'm wondering if there is a good probability in regards to the the requested change/update on the "Currency" will be made per your estimated couple of months. With much appreciation.

As far as the "distance unit" for map, it will be great if it changes by Geo Location. If it is in USA = "miles" if it is not in USA 'km". (But not lock it for traveling users who may want to switch to a distance unit they are accustomed to.)

We can look into this but it may take a couple of months till we finally include it in the component.

and what about the "distance unit" for the map? How do you show distance in km or miles? Do you also want your users to choose their preferences when they get to the page? In any case you need a way to store users's preferences (or units settings). Do you have or want that?
