Holidays as events

I am trying to see whether this module would be suitable for a site I am building. I am updating an old Dreamweaver site to Joomla3. Support info here

The bulk of the data I need to display is currently in table form, in month by month pages with a couple of cells for date and the description of yoga holidays and retreats, including hyperlinks. If each holiday was regarded as an event, could they be displayed in date order, for a specified time period or in date order for a specified category (which would be destination country) or a combination of both search criteria. Then by choosing one from a list, give the possibility for more information or images.
It looked from your demo that this may be achievable but not sure where to start or what packages I would need.
