Hi, do I understand correctly that in order to add an event in, say, three languages, my users need to create three separate events in separate language categories? Or be teached given backend ACL access and education for being able to FaLang the event?

//I found no documentation about this -- what I am thinking is that a component like this is not really multilanguage capable if the 'dumb' frontend user is not able to create ONE event and at the same time provide 'title english','title french' , 'description english','description french' a.s.o. ... I need to find such a solution but from what I understand, this is not JEvent?

Cheers Ben

Hello Ben,

JEvents fully integrates with Joomla! unfortunately for you it is Joomla! which is the problem, not JEvents.

Joomla! language system by default requires every user to create an article, menu, everything in a different language for a complete correct translation.

This means duplicating or tripling everything.

You have use the likes of Joomfish which translates what is displayed.

Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony, thanks for your answer. The Joomla side is no problem (though Joomlas language handling is not the most user-friendly yes), and JEvents' static extra fields a.s.o. needs to be transated trough Falang or alike yes. All that can be done, but as Joomla's (and Falang's a.s.o) abilities to allow front-page multi language editing is non-existent, multi-language able components need to be constructed like for instance Sobi or HikaShop / alike, having tabs or alike for editing the different recognized languages installed on the Joomla website. As there will be no effective way of maintaining well functioning complex multi language websites trough Joomla core for years to come in the way you are referring to, effective components needs to use own sql tables and php for storing and handling languages and not wait for something which will not be seen

Hi Tony, thanks for your answer! Yes, Joomla core's language handling is bothersome and fails to offer any user friendliness for editing users on more complex sites. On many of my sites, users insert company information, events, shop products and so on, and it is not wise to try to convince them that "uh, you need to learn to log on to the admin side and use this or that 3rd party translation component" or "uh, you think you are creating ONE product/event, but you are in fact creating FOUR and you have to insert every picture, price, detail, address aso on FOUR different places on the frontend (((because Joomla is so stuid)))". So, for creating components that we can really claim to be multi lingual, we have to go some steps further and doing as some Joomla e-shop components for instance have done, and use own sql tables and php for allowing the user to effectively add needed language texts for instance in separate tabs or columns on the product/event creation page.

Stéphane, the creator of Falang, is starting work with frontend Falang translation in January, but this could of course take a lot of time to accomplish. JoomFish is practically dead. Let's not wait for Joomla core to get there either :), it will be years (if ever) before Joomla will present a language system with a real relative multilanguage structure, components need to develop faster than that :).

Cheers Ben
