Reason: only one member needs it, many others are confused and sometimes press it by mistake.

I would like it so the Members group can only Create New and Edit, and Administrator can also "Copy and edit". On the permissions tab on the configuration screen, there doesn't seem to be any way to disallow copying only.

Custom CSS can be used to blank out the item on the menu, a bit of a hack but I'm not proud.

But then what about the one guy who needs it. I could create two menu items pointing to the same calendar, with two different css classes, and only one of the calendars with the "copy and edit" option disabled, the other only allowed for Administrators. Is there a way to do it in a more elegant way.

I'm afraid there is no easy way to do this. If your template put the menu item id in the class name of the body tag you could do a conditional CSS based on that
