why does custom layouts have different syntax?
as a programmer and designer i find it very cumbersome to achieve a simple desired layout.
so when i get the module layout to look as desired, the component layout needs to be edited both the defaultloadedfromtemplate.php and the custom layout within the component.
and then, for example, starttime and endtime wont show at all...

The latest events module syntax is a lot older and is not as flexible as what we wanted to implement in the layout editor (https://www.jevents.net/frequently-asked-questions/event-detail-layout-editing)

Unfortunately the Joomla module config doesn't offer us enough power to implement the the sort of layout editor we use for the main component when editing the module. BUT you can use exactly the same syntax in the latest events module as you would use in the layout editor.

There should be no need to touch/override defaultloadedfromtemplate.php - is there some additional syntax or fields you want us to add to it?
