I am new to Joomla and am currently developing my first website to detail all activities that kids can do in my area. My vision is to do the following:

1. to have registration times and dates, events etc by very detailed category on the website (e.g., gymnastics, hockey, violin etc..)
2. to give registered users to whom I give permission to be able to create events
3. to give registered users the ability to download the calendar by category.
4. to link the calendar to Facebook/Twitter
5. to eventually allow users to communicate amongst themselves within categories/across categories.

I have already installed JEvents and it is awesome! Now a few questions:

1. Given my requirements above, what level of membership will I need to purchase to get the plug-ins I will need?
2. I am using a shape5.com template that has a module for signing up users - how do I link that to JEvents to allow them to see the calendar?
3 Is JomSocial the best way to accomplish 5. above?

Thanks in advance!!

1. Do you want people to register for events of just provide the information about registration details - if you want to give the information e.g. registration times, capacities, contact telephone numbers etc. then the custom fields addon will probably help (Silver member addon). If you want people to register then you would want RSVP Pro (Gold member) - see the demo videos here http://www.jevents.net/jevents-club/demo-videos

2. This is standard JEvents functionality - you setup the permissions in the JEvents config (permissions tab)

3. This is standard JEvents functionality - create an iCal export menu item.

4. You want to auto-create entries in Facebook/Twitter? if so then you would want the Silver member addons and maybe link in to AutoTweet NG (a non-Jevents addon for Joomla). We also offer a Facebook share/like/comments silver member addon

5. What other sort of communication/interaction are you looking for? Its possible that JomSocial or Community Builder would be good for you but they may also be overkill

Hi! I have a few more questions:

1. Is it possible to make a particular category only accessible to a set of users? If so, does this require the purchase of a plug-in?

2. Can a user have different permissions in different categories?

3. Can you upload events from an Microsoft Outlook compatible file?

4. Can you download more than one category at once?

5. If a particular category has restricted access, would a public user see the category but not the items in it?

6. Can a user customize their view of the entire calender and have the view saved?

7. In my installed version of JEvents, the category bar is showing up below the calendar and it doesn't show the subcategories beneath each category like the demo. What am I doing wrong?

Again, thanks...your product is quickly becoming the central functionality of my website!! Love it!!

1. This is standard Joomla category permissions functionality
2. As in 1
3. Yes you can import from an iCal export created by Outlook
4. Yes
5. No they would not
6. Not sure what that means
7. enable the display of sub-categories in the legend module parameters.

The demo site includes the dynamic category module (http://www.jevents.net/jevents-club/dem ... -selector7) available to silver members of the club

Thanks for your quick answers....As for 6. above, I meant if a parent has a child in gymnastics, hockey and soccer, can they exclude the rest of the calendar and only have those three categories show up when they login again?

And, I notice that the calendar I am working on is called "Default". Given my direction of having all of these different activities, when would you create more than one calendar?

You can create separate calendars to allow imports from different sources or as a second dimension for classification. For silver members there is a calendar specific menu/module addon that allows you to show/filter menus/modules for specific calendars.

There is a filter module that allows visitors to select events of a certain category but this setting is not saved from visit to visit but it is something we are looking into
