My current calendaring scenario has a calendar syncing of Thunderbird Lightning with my iPad and via iCloud auto updating of other members of the club for whom I run the website. For JEvents I upload an exported .ics file and import in Manage Calendars.
Main calendar is Lightning, but use of iPad means I can update calendar whilst on the go.
JEvents is not, therefore my source calendar, and my operating model would suggest that automatic 2 way syncing with the JEvents calendar and Lightning/iCloud would give me a scenario where input could be done anywhere and all calendars have integrity.
I'd like, however, to explore once again the Event invitation functionality of JEvents, but have a few questions:
1. Given my current operating model can invitations/event management be used in JEvents based on uploaded calendar entries?
2. One possible scenario is that I would maintain the master calendar, but others would then be responsible for events management of their own events - is that possible?
2. If event management can be carried out on an uploaded file, what is the effect of performing an upload of an updated .ics file? Will invitations etc. be overwritten?
3.If Event Management won't work with my current model do you have any thoughts on ways to achieve with JEvents? I'm aiming for a centrally updated calendar with delegated responsibility for events management.

Many thanks in advance

Merv

What you are talking about is what is known as a CalDav implementation where there calendar is stored online but allows updating and exporting of the events remotely. This is complex to implement and is not yet available in JEvents (though we have been experimenting with it)

1. Invitations can only be sent for events created within JEvents itself.
2(1) You can assign event admin users for events within specific categories within JEvents
2(2) This would not work well (see point 1)
3. See point 2(1)

Many thanks. I'm thinking that I need to treat events registration as a separate module rather than integrated within calendar system, possibly pulling in basic events data from calendar. Is that an RSVP Pro possibility in say a JEvents website only calendar?

RSVP Pro is fully integrated into JEvents and can't operate without it. Is that what you mean?

to use RSVP Pro you would need JEvents as your master calendar

I was thinking along the lines of a "master calendar" with RSVP Pro for meeting invites alongside a pure JEvents calendar, the latter having all events and being populated by upload from Lightning. I can keep Caldav in the Lightning, I Cloud environment so potential for multiple updates, then use website based Second jevents calendar for the meeting invites and just check manually that the 2 calendars are in line for common event items. Any issues with running 2 Jevents calendars on website please? Appreciate use of another pure events extension e.g. DT Register and the like might be better, but trying to work using existing extensions if possible.

Hello Merv,

You can only run 1 install of JEvents but you can set up calendars/categories to be more independant.

If you want to give it a try and find it does not fit your needs we do offer a 30 day money back offer.

Thanks
Tony

Many thanks. I'll have a reassessment of what I'm trying to achieve, but I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm better keeping calendar and events management as 2 distinct things given my scenario.
For the calendar side then bringing my web calendar into the Caldav set up I have would be good, but appreciate not an option at the mo with jEvents.

Regards

Merv
