Hi,

I'm hoping for support regarding the config settings for Jevents SEF/options.

We are wanting upcoming event detail pages to be indexed/followed - but not past events.

Complicating this - we leave the past events as published events so that they will be included in the calendar in muted text and without the link to its event detail page.

Initially we had set the configs as follows to index upcoming events but not past events:

'Set meta-tag to stop robots crawling.' = 'Allow robots to index event detail pages'
'Redirect Spider/Robots to crawler menu item' = "Yes".
'Menu item for robots' = [set to the Jevents Crawler menu item]
The Crawler menu is set to include events occurring between today and 1 year from now.

Then it became apparent that past events were still being indexed - so I changed to use the following settings:

'Set meta-tag to stop robots crawling.' = 'Yes'
'Redirect Spider/Robots to crawler menu item' = "Yes".
'Menu item for robots' = [set to the Jevents Crawler menu item]
The Crawler menu is set to include events occurring between today and 1 year from now.

With these settings - the crawler map includes the upcoming events within the date range correctly - however the event details pages' robots meta tag is "nofollow, noindex" and it appears that events detail pages are not being indexed - or are indexed with such little relevance they are not easily found within the search results.

So I have changed the settings to:

'Set meta-tag to stop robots crawling.' = 'Conditional on Calendar date'
'Block Robots before this date' = '1 day'
'Block Robots after this date' = '1 year'
'Redirect Spider/Robots to crawler menu item' = "Yes".
'Menu item for robots' = [set to the Jevents Crawler menu item]

With these settings - the robots meta tag on the upcoming events detail pages is "follow, index" - but also on past events.
The calendar pages monthly, weekly and day do appear to be correctly limited by before one day and after one year date conditions - with the appropriate robots meta tag.

Is it possible to configure JEvents to set the robots meta tag to index/follow for upcoming event detail pages and to set the robots meta tag to noindex/nofollow for past events? Can you please advise on the proper settings to do so?

Thanks!
Diane

Well we wouldn't stop them indexing past events since we go of event details not past or future.

But if your STOP past events from showing on your website then you will no longer have old events.

Many thanks
Tony

Hello,

I have gone an taken a look at your site and your past events are no longer links. So what pages are the issue still? Still google will drop off the links eventually.

Many thanks

Hi,

What are the correct JEvents SEO configurations settings in order for upcoming event detail pages to be indexed/followed - but not past events?

Thanks,
Diane
