JEvents 1.5 (No longer actively supported)

Creating Jevents for iphone or other mobile devices  Topic is solved

JEvents 2.0 was launched over 2 years ago and the latest stable version is version 2.2 which will run on Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 2.5. JEvents 1.5 is therefore no longer actively supported - you should upgrade to JEvents 2.2+ as soon as possible.

I am working on a CalDav integration for JEvents which will allow you to create events on your phone and have them auto-update to JEvents (and vice versa). This will be a club addon which I hope to have ready for testing in a few weeks time.

Is there a smartphone layout available for running on Joomla 1.5? I went to the Joomla 1.5 area on the Club Layouts page and it says "you must have JEvents 1.5.5 or JEvents 2.0.0+ already installed", which I do, but in the details for the smartphone layout it says "this requires JEvents 2.2.2+/2.1.13+ to work". I installed this layout but I am still seeing the desktop version on my mobile device.

The smartphone layout should work in Joomla 1.5 but you will need JEvents 2.2.8 since we have had to implement specific catches for mobile devices that are not recognised by Joomla 1.5.

What sort of mobile device are you using?

I am testing on my smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy S III. I will upgrade to 2.2.8 and test again.

I upgraded JEvents from 1.5.5 to 1.5.6 and then to 2.2.8. I am still not seeing any difference on my mobile device. I am using "ext" for my layout. Do I need to change this to "smartphone". If I do, won't that affect the layout on my deksktop version? Is there something else I need to do to get this to work?

Hello,

Have you got mobile Joomla installed? Or the likes of Rocket theme with its built in mobile detection?

Hello,

I have just tested this and it appears to be working as expected.

Do you have a link I can see your issue in?

Tony

Here is a link to the calendar on our website:

http://www.lakebluff.org/index.php?opti ... Itemid=107

I am running Joomla 1.5 and JEvents 2.2.8. In JEvents configuration, I have "ext" for the layout. I still see the full month table view on my phone.

Joomla 1.5 had fairly primitive mobile device identification and when we wrote JEvents 2.2 I don't think JTouch was around as a mobile template tool therefore we didn't build it in to the code.

You can implement a workaround which should fix the issue for your site. Edit the file components/com_jevents/jevents.php and at line c. 90-92 you should see this code:
Code: Select all
else {
   $isMobile = $browser->_mobile;
}

replace it with
Code: Select all
else {
   $isMobile = $browser->isMobile();
   // Joomla isMobile method doesn't identify all android phones
   if (!$isMobile && isset($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'])){
      if (stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'android') >0) {
         $isMobile = true;
      }
      else    if (stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'iphone')>0 || stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'ipod')>0)  {
         $isMobile = true;
      }
   }
}

Let me know if this helps
