Is it possible for the monthly calendar to be printed to .pdf (as is done for typical Joomla articles)? I see mention of .pdfs in the forum but not in the JEvents (1.5.3) I installed.

My users want to be able to e-mail and print the actual calendar, not just a link. They want to print it out and mark it up in meetings without web access, and so would like to be able to attach a .pdf to their e-mail.

Thanks!

Not at present - the PDF implementation in Joomla incoporates the bare minimum of features/fonts and doesn't allow for an attractive PDF export of the events calendar.

Firefox offers a print to pdf file option - could you use that instead?

I think this feature is probably more important than any of the other stuff you're adding on. After all, I can see the need for people to print the monthly calendar easily as far more common than registration for events or anything else. At the very least, there should be a function to export the events to a format that is able to be printed. After, calendars for publication on the web are usually printed to be placed on refrigerators, tack boards, etc. The lack of basic printing or export to PDF is a huge miss, no offense. I like it otherwise.

There is a print icon available for most views in JEvents - have you disabled this?

In JEvents 1.5.3 you can setup a special template override for custom print outputs - the date range output is highly suited for this (there are instructions and sample code in the club documentation area). Many sites are using this mechanism for a professional quality custom output which can even go straight into magazines/newspapers even.

OK, good - I thought this wasn't functional based upon the above conversation. Printing calendars to PDF or suitable for printers is of utmost importance for many using calendaring functions!

Just come across this thread as I was looking for a way to reinstate the PDF icon that appears on my other pages.

Can you provide a link to the documentation that covers providing this PDF functionality as I cant find it?

Cheers

The problem with the PDF implementation in Joomla is that it uses a heavily slimmed down PDF library (and font selection set). This is why its not offered in JEvents by default.

I looked for the article I'd written but can't find if (bizarre) - I'll write something today and put it in the club documentation download area.

Thanks.

I want to be able to offer a downloadable programme of events that people can then print out.

Some basic customisations on how the resulting PDF will look would be great (e.g. headers, footers etc)

I note there are a few PDF addons available for Joomla - maybe one of these could be used?

Another non-Joomla website I manage uses the TCPDF library which is hugely flexible.

Cheers

This could be some help to get started http://www.jevents.net/en/jevents-15-to ... -of-events

If you are familiar with the PDF libraries the the output could be customised to generate a PDF layout.

OK I will investigate creating the custom view.

In the meantime, if I want to use one of the PDF plug-ins, how do I re-instate the PDF icon at the top of each event page?

Cheers
