We previously had a Gold subscription and may consider the Silver for the use of the Smartphone layout.
When we tested the smartphone layout we discovered it did not automatically detect it, we had to selected it as the front end template. While it works fine on the phone it doesn't work on the desktop.We want to use alternative for the main front end template and have the smartphone ONLY for phones. We use Rocket Themes so pads will render fine with alternative.
What is the status of these issues?

The Iconic, Ruthin and Explus layouts now have responsive config options which mean they will scale to fill the space available and for the month calendar auto-switch from a calendar table to a list layout if the space is too narrow.
That is actually more reliable than the dedicated smart phone layout which relied on device detection.
