Can you check what the database collation is for the JEvents tables? it should be utf8_general

If you write the text into the import event description and save is it still formatted as you input it?

I'm sorry, but i don't understand what you mean by 'write the text into the import event description'. If i change the description of the imported event manually and save it, it is saved just fine, including the special characters. It only goes wrong with the iCal import...

With this file it works fine!!! I will have a look at the macro which creates the file from Excel...
