server 500 error

Hi for the past few weeks I have been having trouble with my joomla site. In the front end when I try to navigate to any page that is not an artical page I get an server 500 error. When i try to debug the problem and set the error log option in globe confirmation to maximum the server 500 error goes and leaves me with a white screen with no error message. can anyone help.
