We are glad you like and JEvents is extremely customisable.

1. This is tricky, because what do you define as default?

We do by default auto select if there is only 1 option available to the user.

So using are Authorised User Mode (Adding users manually) to create events gives you a tighter restriction and can restrict the calendar they can add to. Then they will not see this option at all. The category can be defined in the menu item as a restriction so when they create an event this should be pulled though...

How did you remove the buttons? we should do this JUST with a bit of CSS using our JEvents Custom CSS section.

2. Yes it is customisable with a template override but will need some coding to add a date selector rather than year...

It sounds like your timezones are different on JEvents and Google?

3. You can do this yes, enable it in the JEvents Config. This just allows importing to the calendar you are on. You cannot create new calendars/feeds from the front end.

4. Bronze is a little low to be perfectly honest, this is for documentation. You would need a silver membership for coding / modification guidance. But all of the above is possible without any membership if you can code the necessary changes your self. See the Free documents here to get you started!:

We are very impressed with the JEvents Calendar which is much easier to customise (and more pleasing on the eye) than a paid extension we have (I won't use names :-)), where we don't really get the support we paid for.

We are using the free version of JEvents at this stage and I have a few questions before we buy a Membership:

1.
Creating Events:
a.
It is possible to select the Category by default, is it possible to select the Calendar by default as well?
--Reason: we have more than 1 calendar on the website with different permissions. I want to make creating events as easy as possible for the users, the calendar on which they want to add an event should be selected by default.

For categories you can use Joomla! ACL and create a specific usergroup and only allow that group to publish to that category. Then the category will be choosen by default.

For Calendars, you cannot assign a default calendar per user group, but you can change the default calendar so that it's a different one and not the default one.

Also if you want to use JEvents Authorised mode, you can restrict your users and calendars one by one and then they will be shown only their default categories and calendars when adding a new event. To make this easier to manage for sites with lots of users there is a Silver Member plugin that allows you to give automatically user permissions to calendars when they register in the site.

b.
I have removed the "Publish" and "Access" buttons and now the user's event is not published by default (as per the settings)and the Access is "Public". I don't want to show this buttons, I want the "Access" to be set by the category default and the event should be published by default as well. How do I do this?

If the category access level is more restrictive than the event, the event will not be shown to a user that is not allowed to see the category.

2.
Exporting Events:
The export window is a bit daunting for the users, can this be customised:
*Again, I want the category/calendar to be set by default for the calendar
*Instead of "Years" there has to be a "Date Range" the user can select

Users will only get the events they have access to when they check the "ALL CATEGORIES" button. Please notice in JEvents a Calendar is just a way of getting events but it's not the usual way to categorize events so for the ical export you can only choose categories, but not calendars.

Right now to change the "years" thing to a more flexible "date range" is not possible without some custom coding, but if you have like a limited set Date ranges, you may use the time limit plugin and create different menu items with different time frames that provide all those your desired date ranges.

*I want to change the headings of the generated Export "PUBLIC EVENTS" and "JEV_PUBLIC_AND_EVENTS"

Sorry I'm not sure what you are speaking about.

--The Google export loses 1 hour when the event time ends at 00:00, how do I fix this?

This has been discussed in the forum before, I'm not sure if there is a fix for this or whether it can be solved toggling the "override midnight" setting in the ical export tab at JEvents configuration, maybe Geraint or Tony can provide more info.

In the tab I just spoke set to yes the import from frontend option. After that if you are allowed to create events you should see the import button in the admin panel that appears in the frontend when accessing any JEvents page.

And Lastly:
To be able to implement(get support on how to do) all of the above, will the Bronze Membership be enough?

If you need any of our plugins or club layouts, you will need to go for Silver membership and we can provide instructions and even coding at some extent in the forum, but if you needs deep changes that are not in the general interest of the extension we might ask for extra that covers development costs for custom coding.

As per your requirements I think we are pretty close to what you need, and if you can be flexible in the exporting features, JEvents is probably the perfect choice for your needs.

Great, if I can customise the export to have a Date Selector, it would be perfect. So, would you be able to help me with this if we buy a Silver Membership? -- I did browse around a bit in your free documentation but I don't see anything for Export Options, so I am not sure if this will be possible via the css template customisation and I am not too confident in php coding.

1. These are language strings and can be customised - see http://www.jevents.net/jevents-15-topme ... in-jevents (The JEV_PUBLIC_AND_EVENTS was an error which was fixed in JEvents 2.2.9/3.1.7)

2. Do you have any PHP experience - if so then we may well be able to provide pointers for the customisation you want. Please remind me in more details what you would use the date selector for?

The Date Selector:
When you use the Export Menu:

There is a checkmark with "Years" and then you can select which year to export.
However, we are using the map for our Neighbourhood Watch Patrol Shifts which are updated on a weekly basis and I would like the users to instead of seeing "Year" to be able to select a date range to export, also then eliminating duplicate exports of previous events because we do not delete the events - it is saved for documenting purposes.

That is basically it.

You could use the Timelimit silver member plugin which can be configured to suppress the output of all historic events in the frontend of the site and then you would have no need to do any customisation other than hiding the 'select year'/'all years' page elements using CSS

Thank you, it seems that the TimeLimit addon may be what we are looking for.
I see that the Timilimit addon can be configured per menu/module. Does that mean I can configure it to work only on my "Export Calendar" and set it up to only then export a specific date range or is it possible to still customise to show a date range to export?
Also, when exporting the calendar "Generating Export Options" I see:
Public Events and Private Events - is public events all events by all users and Private events only the specific user's events? And what does 'Subscribe to Selection' mean?

So sorry for all the questions! In the meantime, our next Committee meeting is tomorrow (Tuesday) evening and I will then discuss the purchase of the Silver Membership.

You can set an overall time limit constraint or set it for specific menu items (e.g. your export) and modules.

the user specific events plugin can be used to create menu items/modules showing only events created by a specific user. You can also mark events as private so that only the creator (and admin users) can see these events.

I created a menu item with 'Export', when clicking on the menu link I get the following:

Public Events - Only events non-logged in users cannot see
Private Events - All events the logged in user can see.

The Subscribe is a webcal:// protocol so your locally ical based calendar should open up when clicking it.
