With all the gold options, is it possible for a person to mark his attendance at or his interest in both general and JomSocial Group events, then be able to see a personal calendar with only those events listed on it?

Yes - people can register for events or say they may be attending an event and you can create a menu item (or module) showing events a user is intending to attend.
An important thing to now here is that we are talking about JEvents events which can be associated with JomSocial groups - they are NOT native JomSocial events.
the best thing to do is to join the club, have a play (asking questions you need to ask) and if it doesn't do what you need (bearing in mind its worth asking before assuming something can't be done ) then just ask for a refund.
