I guess I am asking how does the importing of the ical work? I have a google calendar which I keep updated. I now wanted to use JEvents for all its beauty and usage and letting my users post events too. So, the question is if I continue to update the google calendar with events, will they be periodically and automatically be imported into the JEvents component?

How about vice-versa - events posted into JEvents - will they be updated to Google Calendar too? I have a zapier that runs to update my facebook etc but all from Google Calendar, so I want to hold on to GC but wanted to see how I can use JEvents too.
Hello,

You would create a new JEvents calendar and select from URL. Enter the export url from your google calendar, and then you save it. Then all events are imported.

You would want then to enable anon refresh on the JEvents calendar and copy the URL and setup a cron job to update the calendar every x minutes/hours etc.

One of the calendars has to be the Master. So if you are importing from Google all the previous events in that calendar will be wiped unless you lock the event. and the new ones are imported.

Thanks
Tony

Hello,

You can indeed. Just create a JEvents iCal Export Menu item, view it. Click Generate and then right click and copy url on the Download iCal button.

Use this URL for Google or Outlook.

Thanks

How do you set up the cron job to automatically reload the google calendar? If I click on the link on the back end of JEvents it updates and even gives me a box showing what was updated, but if I try to use curl or wget from a cron job using that same url nothing happens.

Hello,

You copy the anon URL. Make sure to enable anonymous refresh when editing the calendar.

And set this up as a normal cronjob just running the url.

Many thanks

If you're experiencing any problem with cron job, you can try free online cron job provider like easycron.com and easycron.com/cron-job-tutorials/how-to-set-up-cron-job-for-jevents.
