Event editor can't see calendar

We have a single calendar on our website with viewing access set to Public. We also have a few usergroups (UG) defined with permissions to post/edit calendar events. We've recently begun encounting a problem. On the front end, the calendar is visible but if a user of one of the UGs with edit/post permissions logs in, the calendar is no longer visible - either a blank page appears or a "No Calendar Events Found or Calendar not set to Public." is displayed. When they log out, the calendar is agin visible.
We've not changed any permissions or access levels in JEvents. We did update Joomla to 3.8.8 but can't say definitively if the problem coincided with the update.

At the top of the page is also this warning message:"234 - Your php setting for max_input_vars may be too low (currently it is 1000) - if you have problems updating your configuration options then please ask your webhost to update this setting to 2000." Could this be the cause of the problem?

The php warning isn't a concern for what you are doing.

Is the usergroup of the user assigned to public too? It sounds like they might not have public rights :/

Editor's user group has public access. As I said, everything was operating fine until just recently. Has anyone else encountered any problems with the latest Joomla update?

The only possible issue with 3.4.46 is if they have edited the event and saved one it could set filters and therefore hide events in the frontend. But if they haven't saved an event and its when logging in, it doesn't make any sense.

Can you provide logins for the user, super user logins and how to recreate the issue. I'll compare the two queries.

when I login as that user to the frontend I see events?

Do you have the logins for a user who doesn't see events?

As long as some events are active, they appear on the homepage whether the user is logged in or not. It's when there are no active events that the "No Calendar Events Found or Calendar not set to Public." message is displayed. I just turned off currently posted events so you can see the error on the homepage.

The other issue is that an editor with event posting permission can't access the Calendar on the front end to post an event. Try this: without logging in, select News & Events | Calendar from the main menu and the calendar will be shown. Now log in and try it again - you'll get a blank page.

OK, so I turned off RokMiniEvents and the "No Calendar Events Found or Calendar not set to Public" message went away.

But the second issue is still a problem - an editor with posting permissions can't see the calendar when they log in.
