Hello,

I've been evaluating JEvent for some projects; it seems to have the features my clients need (I'll get the Gold version for PayPal integration) except I can't have them use JEvent if I can't figure it out, and they have no documentation.

I propose that someone tell me how to use it, and I'll put together a nice doc set (only English for my part).

I think covering the following topics in a step-by-step format will make it much easier for folks evaluating and using the product, and therefore lead to more users/sales:
Install
-Including install steps, and a brief description of each sub-component.
Basic Use
-How and why to create a calendar; category; menu; event.
-The relationship of the JEvent Joomla component to categories, and such like.
Customization
-Top 10 requested customizations, and how to DIY.
Additional features available via paid upgrades
-What are the non-free features, and how to use them.

Please let me know if you're interested.

In the club download area there is a detailed doc on the configuration plus examples of repeat patterns (e.g. How do you put in the US thanksgiving holiday etc.). Also there is a fair amount of technical docs on how to do template overrides, optimise your configuration for performance/SEO etc.

If you were willing to contribute the type of documention you are referring to then I'd upgrade your account to "Contributor" status which is equivalent to a free gold membership.

Can I suggest you become a bronze member then start asking all the questions you want about JEvents 1.5.3 in the bronze club forum. When I upgrade your account I'd refund the membership.

How does that sound?

Sounds good Geraint.

The license mentions that the documentation cannot be distributed (nor modified). I was hoping to distribute a subset of the documentation to my customers (and ideally to all non-JEvent club members), who will add calendars and events to their websites. Will this be in conflict with the license or your plans for getting some money from the project?

The idea is that you can distribute the documentation to your clients - customers for whom you develop sites or sell a basket of services since you are not making money from the distribution of the documenation but from the overall service you are providing.

What I am trying to stop is people joining the club and then selling the copyrighted material as downloads from their sites. Its a very difficult thing to word in terms of a license.

Was the documentation ever developed? I have been crawling through the forums looking for answers to a basic install, terms, vocabulary, etc. I'm a total newbie at Joomla and wanted to get a better understanding of it, so I got a client that needed a site developed with a lot of bells and whistles. Admittedly, most of this is over my head. But I won't understand if I don't start someplace. Anyhoo, after my research, Jevents seemed the most logical component. However, development has been slow as I learn more. Without much documentation, the value of the calendar seems pretty limited. Once the site is delivered, my client will have a pretty limited understanding of the component as well. More thorough documentation would be welcome to most of us.
