I want to show the calendar in a large module so it appears as the component does with the events listed on the dates. If this can't be done, can I put the component in a module (like I can put a joomla article in a module)?

I'm afraid it is not possible. However, you can add text around the component with JEvents Custom Module Positions. Please see: https://www.jevents.net/frequently-asked-questions/custom-module-positions-in-jevents
