Hi, I would just like to confirm that JEvents and its add-ons can do what I need it to do before subscribing.

1. Can I set up a contributing user's permissions so that they are restricted to adding events to one or more locations (eg the clubs they operate)?

By default only the creator of a location/venue can attach these venues to an event

2. Can a public user (ie not logged in) be restricted to seeing events within a user selectable radius of their current location (as indicated by their IP address or if on mobile device by their GPS or network location)?

There is a geofilter option to find events near an address input by the user - at present this is not based on the visitor's location but we are looking into browser location services to allow this to be done.

3. I am puzzled at the plural use of calendars - could I set up a calendar for each club so that on the club page a public user sees only that club's events, but on a site page they see all the events in all the calendars subject to any radius distance filter and any other filters the user might choose?

In general there is only the need to use one calendar - secondary calendars can be imported calendars from external sources or files. BUT there is a calendar filter available to club members so you could create a separate calendar per club and create dedicated menu items for each of these clubs or have a filter to allow the visitor to make a selection

I would like to summarize my goals and understanding of how to proceed for your confirmation or correction. Hopefully this will be of use to others.

I want to move my site [url:3p4zvdqj]http://bridge-game.info[/url:3p4zvdqj] from EventList to JEvents with the following goals
1. Be able to upgrade to J3
2. Be able to allow bridge club users (normally one user per club but could be more) to set up/maintain their own events and location info (normally one location per club but can be more)
3. Events can be one of about five different types of events
4. Have the club page show its club's events optionally filtered by event type and/or location
5. Have a regional or site wide page show all the different clubs' events together optionally filtered by event type
6. Allow a user to display events filtered by geographic proximity (ideally user enters distance and current location is automatically determined by GPS etc, but user entry of suburb would be adequate)
7. Have site admin able to edit anything but club users only able to edit their own events
8. Be able to allow clubs to import events as a batch to their categories when appropriate - I understand this is a separate "calendar" but is integrated into the one display of events

I think using JEvents I need to:
A. Set up a nested category structure with Root - Club - Event Type
B. Set up JEvents User Permissions for each Club user to restrict their edit etc ability to their club's categories
C. Set up the Location Services add-on to set up the various locations including google map coords etc
D. Set up Club page displays prefiltered by the Club category and allowing user filters by Event Type and Location (where there is more than one)
E. Set up Region page displays with filters by the Event Type subcateogry (across all Club categories) but showing the Club category as a displayed field as well as the Location field
F. Set up a User filter display page with all events (as per E above) but also restricted to within the specified range from specified suburb, and then allowing filtering by event type

Welcome back to JEvents! :-).

1. No problem with JEvents and Joomla! Updater.

2. If by bridge you mean authorise. That isn't a problem as we fully support the Joomla! ACL and we also have a user specific events plugin.

3. Thats fine, use the categories, or use our custom fields plugin to create a type field.

4. No problem, the type field could have 'Club' and select this and filter the menu item to show club events. Or have a club events category.

5. Again no problem as above

6. We do have the GeoFilter for JEvents which allows search x distance from the address.

7. No problem, standard JEvents Functionality.

8. This is possible by allowing front end importing, then there is import link shown under the add event link in the front end. Just make sure category restrictions are in place.

A. Sounds good
B. You can do it per user using the JEvents Authorised USer Mode, or use the Joomla! ACL.
C. Perfectly dooable
D. IF using Categories, you have several options: Dynamic Legend Module, Event category and count module and the Legend Module.
E. Yep no problem, have the filter module on the page showing the custom field.
F. You can use the custom filter module
