I cannot install the latest version 3.6.42 on Joomla 4. the main installation fails. I have unzipped everything from the main file and installed each package individually.
This narrows it down to 'com_jevents.zip' (2.93MB) that fails with Joomla message 'Internal Server Error'
Any help gratefully received!

When you get a Joomla 'internal server error' you could try enabling joomla debug mode and maximum error reporting.
If that doesn't help then it could be an out of memory problem

Attached is the the result when having uploaded all other packages and after trying to upload 'com_jevents.zip' with the 'Internal Server Error' THEN trying to open modules in Joomla Control Panel
You should really install the package rather than the individual packaged elements - the package will install the elements in the correct order. In particular the JEvents dashboard module should not be installed before the component

Yes but that was the whole problem it wouldn't install from the main file. I have just tried again from the main file which I just downloaded from the JEvents site it now comes up with 'SQLServer Gone Away'
Are you running on a slow server or with limited resources. The installation of JEvents is not big and complex and should not cause these problems.
Try installing com_jevents again with Joomla debug to see if you get more detail than internal server error? If not can you check your server's error logs for more detail - could it be that you are out of memory??

That is a REALLY STRANGE error - its right in the core of Joomla code where is loads a list of installed languages. Unless your database instance has crashed I don't see how this block of code can trigger an error - its used in every single page request in the backend of Joomla. Your 'SQLServer Gone Away' message is consistent with this. In other words the actual error you are seeing in the code is a red herring.
Are you able to uninstall the mod_jevents_dashboard module and then install JEvents component?

Hi geraint, I tried uninstalling all the jevents components that I had previously managed to install. So with a clean slate I tried installing 'com_jevents' first and it failed with 'Internal Server Error'. So I then tried installing 'installer.zip' (from the main package) which worked ok then next 'com_jevents' which failed with 'internal server error'. I did this with debug mode 'true' and error reporting 'maximum' but I didn't get any stack dump!
I have to tell you that I am trying to do this on a free hosting site at 'https://www.infinityfree.net/' whether this is making a difference I don't know I am not that clever like you!

It takes a very long time to run in the install - possibly because the zip archive library on the server is very old(?) This means that the unzipping of the uploaded package takes too long and the process times out.
I managed to install the modules and plugins one at a time but (as you explained) the component install fails (number of files in the zip package would be my guess). I unzipped them locally and uploaded to a subfolder of /tmp and I was still unable to use "install from folder" (too many files to copy/move perhaps).
There isn't much more I can try - I think you need to get yourself a basic commercial hosting account for your sites.

I have raised this on the InfinityFree forum.
The first responce is 'zip upload is NOT supported on InfinityFree!'
Well how come the smaller zip files work!! The suggestion is to extract all zip files locally then upload resultant files but I suspect this will not work!

No - i tried that. I extracted the whole of the component and uploaded to your server's /tmp/ folder and then used the Joomla install from folder option and that failed too. I suspected it was that there were too many files and that the process went beyond the 30 seconds allowed on this server.

Hello I have got round this problem by installing xampp and set up a local server, installed joomla locally and then jevents installs and I can upload the local setup with ftp to the online server.
