Free text input of address when using location manager
by steve30000 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 8:11 am
When using the location manager, I'd like to also have the option of just entering an address while setting up the event rather than having to go into the location manager popup and create a new location, etc. I'm using the location manager strictly for the mapping features so almost every event that is created needs a new location which adds to the complication of setting up the event.
My ideal would be on the event set up page to have the option to select location or free input of location and if using free input, attempt to map the location automatically. I envision an additional tab or section of the event creation where the google maps shows the found location or lets you further pinpoint the location on the google map.
(One of your competitors products does this and I thought it was a great feature.)

I am part way through implementing this.
You would start typing a location and matching alternatives will automatically appear on a map as you type. At present you would also get a create button that you can use to open the location manager to create the location but I guess we could parse the string to create the location directly of offer 3-4 input boxes for title, street, city etc.

any updates on this???
i would love to have the event set up page to have the option to select location or free input of location and if using free input, attempt to map the location automatically
The manager is great for events that happen at the same place..but for random locations..its gets a bit tedious going from one window to the next..

In version 3.0.3 of the locations manager there is a config option that searches for locations as you type and when it finds some it shows a list of possible matches and also shows them on the map - either of which can be clicked on to select the location. If it fails to find a match it offers a 'create location' button at that point.

not sure where the option is... ill assume its locations manager --> more creation options --> free input of addresses???
I dont see a difference thou.. upon making new event..the location is still "select location" ===> create location..
I presumed that there would be a free input of location right on the common area?
or else...im not quite sure what has changed..

Sorry - the config option is in the plugin. I am planning to move these config options into the component - sorry for the confusion.
