Wrong import of zero-length Google Calendar events

Postby sdf1981cgn » Tue Sep 18, 2012 4:57 pm

Hi!

When I import a Google Calendar .ics file with events that are zero minutes long (start and end time are the same), the imported end time in JEvents is shifted by 24 hours.

Example:

Google event: 2012-12-12 10:00:00 until 2012-12-12 10:00:00
becomes JEvent: 2012-12-12 10:00:00 until 2012-12-13 10:00:00

The timezones settings (twice in JEvents config, once in site config and once in Google Calendar) are all identical.

Greetings, Simon

That is because zero duration events are treated as 24 hour long events. The problem with the iCal specification is that there are no mechanisms for stating categorically if an event has no end time, is an event with no time (just a date).

We have therefore had to make assumptions about strange input values like this. What are you trying to achieve with a zero time event?

Hi!

It is supposed to be an event which should be marked as "no specific end time" in JEvents. There is no dedicated checkbox for that in Google Calendar.

If you set the end time as exactly midnight it should do what you want (from memory).

No, that does not work; then the event becomes

2012-12-12 10:00:00 until 2012-12-13 00:00:00

Any further suggestions? The problem is still not solved.

Kind regards, Simon

In JEvents 3.0 I set the 'no end time' flag for events of zero length. Watch out for the next build early next week (either Beta 3 or the RC).
