date range for ical export

Be able to specify a date range for ical export instead of having to download a year or two of events at a time.

In Jevents 2.0 you can choose 'all years' and 'all categories' as an alternative to selecting specific ones.

Yes, I know. However, I would like to be able to export say two months' worth of events, or one week's worth or whatever. I don't want to have to export an entire year just to get this months' events onto my personal calendar on my computer. Example:

I am building a site for an organization that has a wide range of events. The area in which the organization resides has a lot of people who come just for the winter months to get out of the cold up north. However, the organization has things going on all year. Many people would like to be able to export just the events during the time they are in the area and have them on their personal calendars.

A typical time frame would be December through March.

Right now they have to export two full years' worth of events to get those in that time frame. They then have to go through the painful process of either deleting all the extra events, or living with them cluttering up their personal calendar. Don't like the prospects of either, so they say forget it and don't export anything and forget all about the events that they would have gone to if they had had them in their personal calendar...

Anyhoo, being able to specify a date range would be a dandy thing to have.

This is a feature I could look at for JEvents 2.1 - in fact what you really want is not just a date range but a 'season' type flag. You could then import the Dec-Mar events for all the years ??

You could synthesise this by using the jevents tags addon or custom fields and flag the events by season. If you make the custom field required then the event creator would be forced to select a suitable season.

Then you could create a few separate export menu items - one for each season?

If that makes it easier, sure. However, since sometimes new events are added through the season, someone might just want to download a month at a time? I still think it should be up to the user to determine what date range they want to export. It would be very hard for the admin to determine what the user wants ahead of time...

One other thought - you could try the JEvents filter module and use 'startDate' and 'endDate' as filters - place this at the top of the component in a date range menu item.

If you then hide the year select options with CSS then this should allow you to select a range of dates.
