Feature Request: Priority field/Paid featured events

Postby nezza » Sun Dec 20, 2009 6:05 am

I wanted to request to modify the priority field in Jevent in such a way so that the functionality is more like Paid featured events.

The best way for me to explain would be to compare it to SOBI2 directory on how it charges an extra fee for your specified field (in my case, to be a featured event...so that only featured events are advertised on the homepage using the event module).
Right now the priority field is available while editing the event in the frontend as well as in the backend.
It would be ideal if the user just checks a box in the frontend (to be a featured event or not) if checked as a featured event it will then incur an extra charge that will need a payment processor as well (paypal only to start). So before the event become active, the user needs to pay this extra charge.

I do not know if this is possible with Jevent but I would like to know if anyone can provide feedback on this and any alternatives.

I'm planning a paid event submission addon (using Virtuemart as a shopping cart). It would offer events submission for a period of time or a limit number of event submissions - incorporating the ability to set the featured field would be a natural extension of this functionality.

I'll be starting work on this add on in tbhe new year

Thank you for your feedback.

I look forward to this future add-on.
For now, we will have to manage the event`s site manually for the featured sections.

I'm wondering whether this feature has been added yet? I'm searching for a component with this feature. I've seen the feature list 1.5.4. "# Changes that will allow anonymous user event submission and paid event submission plugins to work"; but are these plugins available yet?

The anonymous user event submission plugin is available to silver + members.

I will add a paid event submission plugin but other addons currently seem to be of higher priority to members.

Club members can vote for the new features they want using the Wishlists menu item at the top of this page. This is what I'm using to judge priorities at the moment.

Re: Featured Event Question

Postby wissamharoun » Thu Apr 15, 2010 11:38 am

Hello,

I've recently become a Silver member and am in the midst of learning the jevents ropes.

So far, most things works as described in their documentation or on the forums. However, I have downloaded and installed the featured event module, and setup Jevents to show the priority field successfully for each event (when editing)... while I am able to create a menu link to an event list by category, and isolate just the priority level (using the drop-down), what I would like to accomplish is to list all events as they occur chronologically, BUT before that on the page, list all events that have a higher priority...

How is this done?

Many Thanks

It can't be done at present but it is possible to create a template override to do something similar.

After fetching the events the override would resort these so that is listed the highest priority ones first.

This requires some programming/customisation though

Thanks for the swift reply!

Allow me to rephrase: One of the silver club modules -- oddly accompanied by scant documentation -- suggests the following:

Calendar Specific Menus/Modules

A JEvents plugin that allows you to specify calendar(s) for menu items or modules. In other words you can create multiple calendars in the backend of JEvents and choose one or more of these for a menu item.

it can be found here: http://www.jevents.net/en/downloads/category/15-calendar-specific-menus-modules

How is this used?
Can it be used in such a way as to publish it with the desired priority level eg. 1, and publishing order eg. 1, in say, position "top", and then publish another list to the same position but only for priority level 0, and with publishing order 2 ?

If this is possible, could you point me to documentation on how to use that plugin -- I can't seem to find any.

Many Thanks

the way the priority field works in the filters for menus and modules is that it will show events at that priority level OR HIGHER. In other words its an 'at least as high as' field.

So if you set the minimum priority value in your menu item config to 5 then only events of priority level 5-10 will show.

Geraint,

I understand that, however, can you please elaborate on my questions regarding the use of the "Calendar Specific Menus/Modules" in this regard (see my earlier reply).

Many Thanks
