SOLVED - Calendar and event viewing permissions

Postby igirisjin » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:39 am

At the moment it looks like the calendar viewing permissions are controlled by Joomla user permissions; public, registered etc.
It would be nice for clubs or other organizations that have membership to display the calendar with event titles but have the option of setting permissions to show event details ... "If your not a paid up member you cant see event details". Or something like a read more teaser for public but full details for registered.

By setting the calendar permission to registered users only, makes them invisible to guests and doesnt promote the website. Same for the latest events mod... would be nice to show titles but redirect to login for public.

This should be doable fairly easily as a plugin (or a tweak to the jevusers plugin).

Basically you'd set a message like we use for the hidden details option already but would trigger it for non-registered visitors.

How much detail would you want to hide. Show the title and times in the calendar and then redirect the login page when you view the event detail?

HI!
It's exactly what I need but I don't have technical skills to achieve it.
Please let me know if there is a way to have this hack even if I have to pay.
Thanks.

1. If simple then show the title, date, time in latest events and on the calendar day block and title popup.
When a visitor clicks either link they get a message to login to see full details or it is only for registered members.

2. Teaser option I guess would be best set in CP as character length to display for unregistered guests.
A kind of read_more link and message to login.

Perhaps No.1 is easy to implement.

I'll implement the following in Jevents 1.5.5 (which I will be starting in about 1 week from now).

Jevents config option to show anonymouse users the 'registered' event links in lists but not the detail. I'll add a redirect page field (so you can put in your message there).

How does that sound?

Pardon me if somebody has already asked about this, but I couldn't find any other posts on this idea, so here goes...

I run a website with about 15 distinct "groups" of people that each have their own categories on a common calendar. The new category management combined with user authorization mode permissions is almost what I need. However, I need to be able to create a permission set that does the following from the front-end:

- Create events based on assigned category permissions (this works in 1.5.4)
- Edit events based on assigned category permissions without being able to edit all other events
- Delete events based on assigned category permissions without being able to delete all other events
- Publish/unpublish events based on assigned category permissions without being able to publish/unpublish all other events

It seems 1.5.4 isn't far from being able to do this, just a matter of adding some additional permission levels and updating the logic accordingly.

In an ideal world, it would also be possible to create permission groups, and then assign users to those groups. User-specific permissions could supersede group permissions. This would make it easier to assign several people the same permissions, but also allow for exceptions if some people need special privileges outside what the group normally gets. In the meantime I'll create permissions for each individual user.

Thoughts? Many thanks - this is such a great component, especially with some of the Silver/Gold plugins!!!

Basically you are suggesting the the category/calendar constraints should apply to all the permissions (not just event creation).

How are you creating your groups - what package?
