Installation Problems
JEvents 2.0 was launched over 2 years ago and the latest stable version is version 2.2 which will run on Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 2.5. JEvents 1.5 is therefore no longer actively supported - you should upgrade to JEvents 2.2+ as soon as possible.

If you encounter problems installing JEvents as a normal component please the following
Possible solution 0 : Try the tar.gz package instead of the larger zip package.http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/13177/58034/com_jevents_155_b1867.tar.gz
Possible solution 1 : installing from a directory.
1. Unzip the JEvents package on your local computer
2. Upload the unzipped file to a temporary folder on your server e.g. /home/user/httpdocs/tmp/jevents/
3. Go to the Joomla install page and type the full path where you uploaded the files in the directory
4. Click "Install" next to this path
Possible solution 2 : Enable FTP mode
1. Go to Joomla config page and enable FTP mode
Possible solution 3 : Increase the php memory in Joomla
Look at the php info tab of the Joomla system info from help menu in backend of your site. Search for "memory_limit" - if this is less than 16M the increase this to 24M (say).
You can do this via your php.ini, .htaccess or using this little plugin http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... rvers/8287

I have an other installation problem.
I get a white error screen with the message:
Unable to create target folder
I t seems it has installed the files in the component folder (ftp prgogram), but there is nothing installed in joomla.
is there a folder I have to check for CHMOD?
It seems they have all a CHMOD of 755
I am a bit of noob around here. so please help me.

Possible solution 3 : Install via FTP
if you encounter problems with a server timeout, you can try this.
it worked for me, and i think also for you.
1. download the jevents main component from this website
2. unzip it to a folder
3. create a new folder
4. move the file 'manifest.xml' and the folder 'install' to this new folder
5. edit the file 'manifest.xml' the following way: delete everything between the <files> </files> (see code below)
and also
also delete
if you want you can also remove the <languages></languages> tags
and
WARNING! do not remove this code, otherwise it will nog work:
6. save the 'manifest.xml' file
this was the editing part. now you have to copy the files to your server.
7. use an FTP client like Filezilla to connect to your server.
8. go to the directory of your joomla installation
9. open the folder components
10. create a new folder called 'com_jevents' and open this folder
11. go to the folder 'site' on your own computer
12. copy the files in this folder to the 'com_jevents' folder on the server (these are the frontend files)
13. on the server, go to the joomla installation folder and go to the folder 'adminstrator/components'
14. create a new folder called 'com_jevents' and open this folder
15. go to the folder 'admin' on your own computer
16. copy the files in this folder to the 'com_jevents' folder on the server (thes are the backend/administrator files)
now, all jevents files are on the server. next step is to create an installation file.
17. zip the file 'manifest.xml' and the folder 'install' in one zip file and call it 'com_jevents_x.y.z' (example: com_jevents_1.5.2)
18. login in your joomla website using the administrator -> yourwebsite.com/administrator
19. make sure that FTP mode is off!
19. go to extensions/install and install using the option 'Package File'
click 'Browse...' and select the file created at point 17.
click 'Upload File & Install'
now the component should install.
from this point on you can follow the normal installation instructions to configure the jevents installation
the attachment is an example of the edited installation zip file
Geraint: maybe you can add this to the installation instructions and provide a 'FTP' install file like this with every release?

HI,
I was getting the blank white screen when attempting to install the calendar through Joomla's automated installation method. I guess the PHP is set to time out too quickly and since I don't have access to the PHP config and Godaddy refused to fix the problem for me, I was pretty much stuck.
Then I read this great post. I followed the directions to manually install and it seemed to be working.
It actually said install successful, I was delighted!
Then I viewed the calendar in the page and the names were all messed up. Instead of the "Tuesday" on the calendar the column read "mod_DayName" or something to that effect. Why did it get all screwed up?
Thanks in advance to anyone that responds.

first thing i want to say is that my method is not officially supported, so maybe you will have to do some debugging yourselve
second thing: i do not exactly understand your problem.
do you mean on the front end? (website visible for visitors)
and can you enter events in the administrator component? and change settings etc.
did you get to the configuration screen after installation?
you can try to uninstall jevents and try it again. if you first installed with the normal zip package from geraint and then tried my method, maybe some files are corrupt or something.
so i say: try a real clean install

Hello all, I am looking for someone to provide some light on this subject. I have been attempting to install jevents 1.5.3 and the component module seems to be giving be a fair amount of grief. I have followed the above instructions in an attempt to manually install the component. I perform the Upload File & Install and I get a component installed successfully message. But when I click on Components/Jevents MVC I get a 404 error indicating the "Component Not Found".
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
