Categories not available when adding new event front end

Postby kammererbj » Sun Feb 17, 2013 5:38 pm

I am not using the 'user authorization' method, but instead trying to the combination of joomla ACL and categories to limit which users can add certain categories.

I went under permissions in the config area and made sure the 'group' had permission to create events, edit events, etc.

I set up categories (and published them) and then set permissions so that the appropriate group can create/edit events. When testing a user in the group, I can get the add event screen to come up, but the drop down for categories doesn't have any entries.

JEvents v2.2.8

Seems like I'm having issues when I have a user with access to mulitple groups.

For instance, users from group1 are the only ones that can add events to category1. Users from group2 are the only ones that can add events to category2. For all of my categories, I set 'deny' in any groups that can't add/edit events.

But, I have some users that are part of multiple groups. For those users, not all of the categories are showing up in the drop down for categories.

any way to correct this?

That is a tricky one - I think that deny 'trumps' allow in the Joomla permissions.

Could you create a 3rd group with combined permissions?

Yes, it appears it does trump it for the mailing lists. It does not do that for regular joomla categories.

I can see if I can create another group, but for my site, there are mailing lists tied to specific areas (categories) on my site. So, having a group permission for each joomla category and mailing list was very convienent and made administration very easy.

In order for this to work, I would need to create a special group each time one person had permission for more than one group.
