Alternate Terminology in language files
by StuartBall » Sun Jan 06, 2013 2:15 pm
Hi,
I'm adapting JEvents language files to change the terminology for a Schools afterschool club management system.
I was wondering if there was a use for alternate files whereby "Events" as a term of reference could be swapped out for Clubs, Courses, etc as Events is not always going to the right term.
Kind regards,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,
You can do this via the language override Tool in Joomlas, see:
http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/ ... e-override
The issue with your proposed solution is it will limit the customisation of JEvents.
For example you might have a club but it would be the clubs events calendar if you see what I mean.
Regards
Tony

In essence I want to narrow the focus for this instance of JEvents. With Parents and teachers using the Jevents/RSVPro combination to manage students attending after-school clubs confusing terminology in context of "Events" becomes a barrier to familiar use.
An after-school club is, in this case, a single event repeated weekly for x weeks. Calling it an event, and having the interface refer to it as an event will confuse users, yet it will fulfill the exact purpose I want it to (Save my wife time!(As afterschool clubs co-ordinator).
I also have in mind a combination of Jevents and RSVPro as a training course booking manager for our County Scout Organisation, there is nothing to say that it can be widened out again and clubs or courses become a category further down the road, and Jevents/RSVPro is generalised again with standard language variables, but when introducing something new, I find its best to use terms that people are familiar with initially.
Thanks for pointing me at the Language Overrides, I'll have a fiddle and see if that achieves what I am trying to get to.
Kind Regards,
Stuart

I pulled the language files I'd been editing and cut/paste them into the overrides ini file and it seems to work, largely.
There are still some occurrences of the word Event, but i can hunt them down eventually.
Thanks for pointers.
Now onto my next hurdle...
