JEvents 1.5.4 Changes

Main changes from version 1.5.3:
  1. A specific timezone is set for the whole of JEvents
  2. Changes that will allow anonymous user event submission and paid event submission plugins to work
  3. Add permission controls on categories and calendars for authorised users
  4. Drop UID from sef urls - makes URLs easier to read (old urls will still work)
  5. Move RSS output to view so that template overriding is possible
  6. Add config option to disable the repeats section of the event edit screen
  7. Add option to hide migration icon
  8. Option to disable ical exports altogether (to stop competitors 'stealing' your event information)
  9. JEvents Filters now remember their 'state' values from page to page ONLY if the mod_jevents_filter module is visible on the same page.
  10. Add backend published events filter.
  11. WYSIWYG template editor for event detail page

Minor Changes from version 1.5.3:
  1. Popup calendar in event edit now respects start of week choice
  2. Most date formatting can now be controlled in translation files via new date format option
  3. Popup calendar can now be setup to be compulsory or optional
  4. Fix handling of midnight in 12 hour version of data entry - 12.00am should be midnight at the start of the day. If you want midnight at the end of the day use 12.00am (or 00:00 in 24hour mode) and the next day.

TimeZone Changes

Joomla 1.5 uses an hourly offset from your server's time to determine the correct time. This is ok when the daylight savings time (DST) changes coincide but is no use if not. Consider a server in Phoenix, USA - Phoenix has no DST so if you want your events to respect New York or LA time then your calendar display could be out by an hour at certain times of the year. This is of particular importance if you have a radio station site that wants to show what is on NOW - this could be out by an hour.

The change in JEvents 1.5.4 is that the component and module sets a specific timezone for ical imports (set in the config on the icalimport tab).  This should have no impact on events that were added to JEvents manually but if you have imported iCal events and your actual server system timezone doesn't match this correct 'true timezone' then you may need to re-import these events.
There is also an advanced option on the front tab to control the timezone for determining 'now' when viewing the site.  This is used in the latest events module and for determining when one day changes to the next.  Unless you encounter problems with days changing at the wrong time then leave this field blank/unselected.

Timezone - What you should do

On the icalimport tab enter the timezone you want for your events (not the timezone the server is located in) so if you're a website in the UK but the server is in Germany you should set your timezone as "Europe/London".
Note that if you leave this field blank then the behaviour should match the bevahiour of JEvents 1.5.3.
WARNING

AttendJEvents should work with this new TimeZone handling regime but if you change the fronttab advanced timezone option please double check the times being displayed for your registration sessions.
